Small Engines Match And Replace Big Ones

By:

In a drive to cut emission levels Audi has started replacing larger capacity petrol engines with more compact alternatives that use forced induction and direct injection to deliver the same amount of power as a large engine whilst dramatically cutting CO2 emissions and increasing fuel efficiency.

The new Audi A3 Cabriolet will come with a 1.2 litre TFSI engine, replacing the 1.6 litre MPI model. The 1.2 litre engine uses a turbo charger to more than match the power output of the 1.6 litre, it has the same 105bhp. The smaller engine can do 0-62mph in 12.2 and has a top speed of 118mph, the 0-62mph times is only 0.3 seconds more compared to the 1.6 litre but the top speed is an increase of 4mph.

The small yet highly efficient engine is available on all variants of the A3 Cabriolet which includes the Sport and S-Line specifications. The standard model comes with plenty of kit, including 16-inch alloy wheels, air conditioning, powered windows and mirrors, a Chorus radio with single CD drive and semi-automatic hood operation. The Sport model has larger 17-inch alloy wheels, sports suspension and sports seats with fully automatic hood operation.

The range topping S-Line comes with larger 18-inch 7 twin-spoke alloy wheels and S line body styling including exclusive front and rear bumper design. Inside, there is leather and Sprint cloth combination upholstery embossed with the S line insignia, an S line multifunction sports steering wheel, a perforated leather gear knob and matt brushed aluminium inlays.

The engine range found in a used Audi A3 in Norfolk has been shaken up too, the 1.4 TFSI petrol with 125bhp has effectively replaced the 115bhp 1.6 FSI, and the common rail 1.6 TDI with 105bhp has taken over from the 105bhp 1.9 TDI.
