Poor Computer performance is one of those things that can make every task that you try to accomplish on your computer unnecessarily difficult and painful. What I'm writing about in this piece is some of the causes which you should be alert to, the damage which they can cause for you, and how to get rid of them. Slow computer performance can be a sign of a more serious problem, but if you know what to do about it, it does not need to be something to worry about. By the time you finish reading this, you have a good idea of what to look for and what to do about it.

If you have recently noticed that your computer is not running as quickly as it used to, then the there is a probability that your computer has become infected with malware. Malware is a generic term for all the different types of malicious and dangerous software which are designed and created by hackers and computer criminals, and spread to the computers of victims, across the Internet and other networks. You'll be familiar with programs such as computer viruses, Trojan horses, and spyware. These are just some of the types of malware which could be infecting your computer. They pose a serious threat because they can be the first step in a more serious attack, and can expose you to possible criminal actions by a hidden attacker.

There are several warning signs which you to stay alert to, which include slow performance, the appearance of pop-up advertising (sometimes even when you're not using your web browser), Internet searches being diverted to a website which you have never seen before, and general bad behaviour on the part of your regular programs, which suddenly start crashing, even though they performed very well in the past. There can be other causes that some of these situations, but you should definitely be checking for malware if this starts happening to you.

The best way to deal with malware infections is to stop them before they can happen, and there are some good preventative measures which you should take on board. First of all, you should be careful not to do anything that puts you at risk, such as downloading illegal files, executable programs, and weird attachments in e-mails. Also, you should have up-to-date security software running on your computer, which should include an antivirus program, a firewall, and also software designed to detect and eliminate adware and spyware. It's so important to prevent these infections from occurring in the first place because it can become almost impossible to recover once they have started.

While this is not a very long article, I hope that I have shown you how important it is to act on warnings signs such as slow computer performance, and to make sure you do something about it right away. It is not just another sign of wear and tear, it is something which you can do something about. If it is a malware infection, and you catch it early, you won't need to do anywhere near as much repair work. And if you check thoroughly for a malware infection, and find that that is not the case, there are still things that you can do to get your computer running quickly again.
