Single Cup Coffee Makers

Single Cup Coffee Makers

By:

Since the advent of the single cup coffee maker, brewing the perfect cup of java is as easy as pressing a button. While many connoisseurs prefer to grind their own beans and have more control over their brew, most people will highly benefit from owning this style of maker.

The Pros

If you have a small kitchen and are short on time, this style of brewing machine is perfect for you. They are compact and easy to store, and you can brew the perfect cup of hot java extremely fast.

Cleanliness...no more messing around with dirty filter paper and soaked grounds. This style uses little pods that leave no mess behind!

Consistency...most people favor consistency, and you are guaranteed that with a single cup coffee maker. Makers like Keurig use small plastic containers to store the grounds. You will not be able to discern any difference between brews with this style.

The Cons

There are many perks, but of course there are also some cons.

One cup at a time...these only make one cup at a time. This is great if you are the only one drinking coffee, but if you have multiple people in the home or at work, this style isn't your best option.

Brand limitation...you are limited to the specific brand of the maker you purchased. I've never been disappointed with the selection from each company, but giving up some of your favorite coffee beans is not always worth transitioning to a single serve coffee maker.

The cost of single serve coffee makers has significantly decreased since their release. This style of maker is convenient for a person that has a small kitchen and doesn't share the morning coffee with a few people. If you are devoted to a specific brand of coffee bean, this style of maker may not be your best option. The variety of coffee beans in pods is great, but you are still limited.

The lack of choice among coffee grounds is a deal breaker for most people. I've always been satisfied with every cup of single cup coffee, but I prefer to grind my own beans and use a different method of brewing. If your situation is right, don't hesitate to try one. Not everyone has the luxury of a large kitchen for a great big espresso machine or commercial sized coffee maker.

If you aren't worried about giving up your favorite beans and want the convenience of a quick and easy cup of hot brew, then a single serve coffee maker is a great investment for you.
