Backpacking is not only exciting, but one of the most affordable ways to travel. Most countries have a wide plethora of youth hostels, bunks, and other forms of lodging, which are targeted towards backpackers. Such accommodations are much cheaper than staying in hotels, motels, or resorts. They may lack many of the amenities that other lodging places have to offer, however, it seems as though most backpackers do not mind; as such outdoor adventurists are generally low maintenance, down to earth, and less reliant on material goods.

Before heading out on a backpacking excursion, one must make certain that all aspects of their home life are in place. Oftentimes, backpackers end up in remote locations where Internet and phone availability is limited or completely inaccessible. As a result, checking in on ones home life may be quite difficult at times. Items to consider before leaving include handling mail collection, bill payment, silverline security of ones home, arranging pet care, lawn and garden maintenance, and, should a backpacker be leaving any children behind, arranging for a caregiver or frequent checkups from a responsible adult may be a good idea.
