Should Courier Drivers Wear Uniforms?

By:

What is it about wearing uniforms? Ask some companies sold to the act of appearing in uniforms. They will tell you that action spells unity and professionalism. Despite the relevance of this practice, not all companies are sold to doing so. In courier companies, there is no known policy that stipulates that workers should appear in uniforms as a means of identity. Recognition is good because it is a means of promotion. So instead of wearing uniforms to push this fact, workers are given identity card. Some companies go beyond the practice of using ID cards. They select a particular day per week for workers to wear uniforms. Other companies might not do this and that is because they draw most of their recognition through printed company logos on vehicles and other possessions. But that is just the company, what about the driver? Is it necessary for courier company, like New Jersey courier services, drivers to wear uniforms?

Considering the fact that courier drivers are physically with the packages during the process of transportation and delivery, it is imperative that they put on uniforms. As mentioned already, it is not compulsory that company drivers wear uniforms in the course of their services. The package they are handling might be delicate and expensive. For this reason they have to look professional and official at all times. Yes, one might argue that since the vehicle have the company logo, the need for identification and professionalism might not be necessary because it has been taken care of. But what if the driver has to leave the vehicle behind to attend to any thing at all, maybe the parking lot to the place of delivery is far, and a long walk is in order. As you would have imagined, the need for identity is already null and void.

The issue about wearing a uniform does not affect business productivity directly but indirectly. Wearing of uniforms displays professionalism and unity and any company practicing such is giving out vital information to the larger public. The information they give out is that of skillfulness, dependability, responsibility, authority, security, and most importantly, unity. These traits are naturally attractive to the customers, like any good means of promotion. So, if a company allows their driver to wear a uniform, they are unknowingly creating a good ground for brand loyalty.

In conclusion, New Jersey courier services and any other company for that matter should encourage their drivers to wear uniforms often; but for other staff, they can wear theirs once weekly.
