Should A Young Man Go To College?

It is a big decision whether or not to go to college. It is not the same question that your parents generation had and therefore it should not be considered from within the framework of their mindset.

Going to college may be the right thing but you shouldn't embark on it without thinking whether or not you are actually choosing the best path.

You Become A Rounded Person: Your learn to think outside the square and develop your powers of reasoning. You are exposed to different ways of thinking and you learn new skills.

You Need It To Become A Specialist: To succeed in the world of business or marekting a degree is not a pre requisite. However if you want to become a professional or a specialist such as a doctor, lawyer or teacher then it is not an option whether or not you go to college.

It Nurtures Your Interests: At college you can mix a wide vareity of things together. Some might be practical subjects, subjects you think will get you a job and some purely for interest.

The People And Experiences: One of the key sway factors is the amazing people you will meet, the amazing experiences you will have and the memories you will lock away forever. College is a special time to enjoy when you are young.

The Argument Against College

Degrees Aren't That Valuable: Back in the day a college degree was a ticket to a good job. That is no longer the case. It might give you a fraction of a headstart but if you don't have the other qualities that employers are looking for then your degree is not going to help you.

It Hurts Financially: College is expensive. Not only are you paying for the degree and living expenses but you are denying yourself the opportunity to earn more money from working for a few years.

College Does Not Hold A Monopoly On Learning: If you really want to learn something you don't necessarily have to go to college. A library card and an internet connection are enough to give you the access you need to learn most skills. You don't have to fork over thousands of dollars.

Weigh It Up For Your Own Circumstances

There is no one size fits all when it comes to deciding whether or not you should go to college. But instead of automatically assuming you will or you won't it is a good idea to genuinely consider all your options.

The more people that have degrees the less valuable they become. The less you stand out from the crowd. They aren't the ticket to the future they used to be and for this reason embarking on a degree should be a carefully considered process.
