Shimit Amin - Bollywood Film Director

Shimit Amin entered the film industry right from the time he was out from college. He worked primarily on independent films in Los Angeles. While he was still living in Los Angeles he received an editing position for the Bollywood film BHOOT (2003). During this time he started getting involved in the film AB TAK CHHAPPAN (2004).

Shimit Amin directed his first film in 2004 which was AB TAK CHHAPPAN (2004). It starred Nana Patekar, Prasad Punrandhere, Nakul Vaid, Kunal Vijaykar, Jeeva, Revathy, Mohan Agashe and Yashpal Sharma. It was critically acclaimed and did very good business at the Box Office.

The story focuses on the life of Sadhu Agashe (Nana Patekar), who is an inspector in the Mumbai Encounter Squad. He is famous for killing 56 people so far in police encounters. The title refers to his kill count.His next film direction was for the film CHAK DE! INDIA (2007).

It starred Shahrukh Khan, Shilpa Shukla, Tanya Abrol, Chitrashi Rawat, Arya Menon, Seema Azmi, Nisha Nair, Sandia Furtado, Masochon V. Zimik, Kimi Laldawla , Shubhi Mehta, Anaitha Nair, Sagarika Ghatge , Kimberly Miranda and Vidya Malvade.

It was one of the most acclaimed films of the year and did excellent business at the Box Office. The story focuses on the life of Kabir Khan, the captain of Indian men hockey team. He is accused of match fixing and being more inclined towards the Pakistani team during the World Cup because of his religion, i.e. Islam.

He virtually disappears for seven years but returns later and becomes the coach of the women hockey team. His disciplinary style is not accepted by the team and there are allegations that he is having an affair with Vidya Sharma. Vidya is made the new captain.

Some of the players do not bond together initially but later on work as a team to win the World Cup. But this journey is not easy. They have to face criticism, discouragement and discrimination. They overcome all of this and prove to the world that if cricket is the religion in India then Hockey too isnt less than it.

This win helps Kabir to regain his respect in society and move back to his ancestral house. In the year 2009, he directed his third film ROCKET SINGH: SALESMAN OF THE YEAR (2009). It starred Ranbir Kapoor, Shazahn Padamsee, Gauhar Khan, Prem Chopra, Mukesh Bhatt and Navneen Kaushik.

It did good business at the Box Office. Shazahn Padamsee, daughter of Alyque Padamsee and Sharon Prabhakar, made her debut in the film. The film revolves around the corporate life of Harpreet Singh Bedi (Ranbir Kapoor), how he manages to rise to the peak from the bottom of the mountain of corporate sector.

It appealed to the masses who could relate to this film. It was witty, humorous and intelligent film made with the powerful performances by every character. Shimit Amin was an assistant editor for Hollywood films like GREED (1924) for it reconstruction.

He also assisted in editing films like HARD DRIVE (1994), THE GIRL WITH THE HUNGRY EYES (1995) and HIT ME (1996). In 1997 he assisted in editing the film RIVER MADE TO DROEN IN (1997) and a video PERFECT TARGET (1997). In 1998 he edited a documentary A la recherche de Kundun avec Martin Scorsese (1998).

He also edited the films SLC Punk! (1998), The Mating Habits of the Earthbound Human (1999) and Magicians (2000). He also edited the TV series THE MOLE (2001) and a short video documentary Making the Boom and the Bang in Bad Boys (2000).

He edited the Bollywood films BHOOT (2003) and AB TAK CHHAPPAN (2004). Shimit Amin has edited dialogues for the TV series HOT LINE (1994) and LOVE STREET (1994).

He also edited dialogues Tollbooth (1994), Lurking Fear (1994), Indecent Behavior II (1994), Huntress: Spirit of the Night (1994), Coldblooded (1995), Cyber Bandits(1995), Aurora: Operation Intercept (1995), Shadow Warriors (1995), Pet Shop (1995), Till the End of the Night (1995) and Temptress (1995).

He also edited dialogues for the video Trancers 5: Sudden Deth (1994) and The Desperate Trail (1995). Shimit Amin has co-produced a video documentary called YOGA UNVEILED (2004). Shimit Amin was born in Uganda. He grew up in Florida, United States and started his career in Los Angeles.
