Shaving Irritation: How To Prevent It

By:

Shaving is one of the most aggravating grooming tasks performed by both men and women. Most men shave on a daily basis, which can incredibly irritate the skin causing both discomfort and physical marks that can be quite embarrassing. Women also are privy to shaving related issues, as most women shave less frequently than men, but cover a greater surface area. If you are suffering from shaving irritations, look to prevent razor burn, ingrown hairs, and bumps using different techniques and a variety of products.

A number of products are available in the market for men who want a daily, irritation free shave. The list is long. Products like special face washes, aftershave lotions and special creams are there to keep you free from any shaving irritation or issues. However, before you choose a lotion, cream or gel make sure that it suits your skin.

It is better for men to consult a dermatologist before starting on a shaving product. A dermatologist will advise you best on a product that suits your skin and prevents shaving irritation. Apart from this there are many prescription products that may save you from shaving uneasiness. You can buy these products only at the prescription of your dermatologist. Your dermatologist can also help you in properly understanding your shaving problem and to use proper shaving techniques if any.

Though aftershaves are used by many men they can be quite harmful in the sense they use alcohol which dries up the skin and causes further irritation. So, you should look for aftershaves that contain natural ingredients like Aloe Vera and have a minimum alcohol content to prevent your skin from becoming dry and fragile. Also, you can go in for lotions instead of aftershaves.

The kind of shaving problems women experience include razor burn, painful bumps, or ingrown hairs. All of these problems can be prevented by using the proper techniques or products. For instance, if you apply some type of lubrication like soap, shaving cream, or shaving gel, you will not have razor burns. Similarly, you can prevent cuts and nicks also by using gels instead of soaps which leave the skin dry and cause further irritation.

Bumps and ingrown hairs are mostly concentrated around the bikini area and are very irritating and embarrassing. To save yourself from it you can opt for waxing instead of shaving. Waxing stops the growth of tiny stubbles of hair underneath the top layer of the skin by removing the complete shaft of hair. However, if you still prefer to shave, it is always better to use a lotion that contains some analgesic. It stops the growth of ingrown hairs.

Other options instead of waxing or shaving include laser hair removal. This is great for both men and women who are tired of constantly shaving and experiencing painful irritation. Laser hair removal has been around for years and zaps the hair follicle, stopping any hair production. The down side to this procedure is the high cost and the number of visits required for the procedure to be effective.

Whatever method you choose to use when preventing irritation from shaving, do so on a regular basis to best protect your skin. Also, ensure your skin is healthy and properly hydrated to best protect your skin.
