Tara Sharma is Bollywood actress and former model. Director Vicky Ranawat's film DAL: THE GANG (2001) was her debut film as an actress in Bollywood. However, she got recognition after appearing in Anupam Kher's OM JAI JAGDISH (2002).

Early Life

She was born on 11 January 1977. Her father, Pratap Sharma is well known Indian author and actor. Her mother Susan was a British citizen. She studied in London School of Economics.

Career

Tara made her debut as an actor in director Vicky Ranawat's action film DAL: THE GANG (2001). The film included actors Anil Nagrath, Dinesh Hingoo, Divya Kumar, Girja Shankar, Hitesh, Ishrat Ali, Mohan Joshi, Mushtaq Khan, Raj Devgan, Raja, Rajesh Chawla, Ranjeet, Razak Khan, Sadashiv Amrapurkar, Suresh Oberoi, Kiran, Monica Patel, Sandhya Mehra, Sara Khan, Sunila Karambelkar Vaishnavi and Veena Kapoor. In 2002, Tara Sharma appeared in Anupam Kher's directorial debut OM JAI JAGDISH (2002). She was paired opposite Abhishekh Bachchan in the film. The film also starred veteran actress Waheeda Rehman along with Anil Kapoor, Fardeen Khan, Mahima Chaudhari and Urmila Matondkar in the major roles. Raju Kher, Parmeet Sethi, Annu Kapoor, Rakesh Bedi, Achint Kaur and Lillete Dubey were the actors in supporting roles. The film is based on the life of three brothers Om Batra (Anil Kapoor), Jai Batra (Fardeen Khan) and Jagdish Batra (Abhishek Bachchan) are brothers and their mother Saraswati Batra played by Waheeda Rahman. The film did not do well at the Box-Office because of its mediocre story line. The film brought recognition for Tara Sharma and a comeback role for Waheeda Rehman who returned to films after 11 years since her last appearance in LAMHE (1991).

In 2003, she was seen in director Anurag Basu's SAAYA (2003) produced by Mahesh Bhatt starring John Abraham in the lead role. Tara was the female lead in the film. The film was a copy of Hollywood film DRAGONFLY (2002). The films story revolves around the life of Dr. Akash (John) and his wife Maya (Tara), who dies in bus accident. Actress Mahima Chaudhary was also seen in supporting role. In 2004, Tara was part of a very successful film of the year, MASTI (2004). The film was directed by Indra Kumar. The film included actor Ajay Devgn, Riteish Deshmukh, Aftabh Shivdasani, Vivek Oberoi, Lara Dutta, Amrita Rao and Genelia D'Souza with Tara Sharma. The film is about three married men Meet (Vivek Oberoi), Prem (Aftab Shivdasani) and Amar (Riteish Deshmukh) and their wives Aanchal (Amrita Rao), Geeta (T Sharma) and Bindiya (Genelia D'Souza). The film was a success at the box-office. The song 'DIL DE DIYA HAI' sung by music director and singer Anand Raj Anand was one of the most successful songs of the year. Tara was later noticed in director E. Niwas's action thriller film BARDAASHT (2004). Bobby Deol, Lara Dutta and Rahul Dev played the major characters in the film. Ritesh Deshmukh and Tara Sharma were seen in the supporting roles in the film. Bobby played Aditya Shrivastava, a deserted army man. Tara Sharma played Ramona, who is Anuj's (Ritesh Deshmukh) girlfriend. The film received positive critical appreciation.
