Seven Golf Tips To Help You Avoid Common Golfing Mistakes

Seven Golf Tips To Help You Avoid Common Golfing Mistakes

By:

Even before you start learning about the more technical elements of golf putting and whatever level of golfer you are, there are a number of traps you can avoid which will help you perform better on the greens.

Here are seven golf putting tips which will help ensure you don't fall into one of the traps...

1. Make sure you choose the right putter

Choosing the wrong putter only makes putting more difficult. There are many different types of putters available and you need to make sure you choose one that is suited to your putting stroke. This applies to complete beginners as well as more experienced players.

2. Know how to test putters

Once you've narrowed your choice down to a few putters you then need to test them to see which one works best for you. Again there is a right and a wrong way to do this. Our putter testing lesson will ensure you select the best one for you...

3. Have your putter fitted

To get the very best from your putter you need to have it fitted. There are three elements that need to be checked and, if necessary, adjusted. These are:

the Length (of the shaft),

Loft (angle of the club face) and

Lie (how the bottom of the putter sits on the ground).

Your supplying golf shop or your local golf pro will be able to measure and adjust these for you.

4. Know the rules of golf

The rules are not only there to penalise you - they are also there to help you. Knowing the basic rules of golf can save you shots (and matches), and there really is no excuse for not knowing them. This particularly applies when it comes to putting.

5. Use the right putting strategies

Putting isn't just about trying to hole every single putt from wherever you are on the green. There are different strategies you can adopt depending upon the type of putt you are facing to help you avoid the dreaded three-putt. The key thing to consider is where your next putt will be from, assuming the first one doesn't go in.

6. Know when to putt and when to chip

The basic rule is 'Try and putt it whenever you can', but how do you decide if you can putt it?

The key is how the golf ball is sitting on the grass and what lies between the ball and the putting green. You can also use other clubs to putt with that can help you get the ball over tricky ground.

7. Practice the right things (don't practice your faults)

There is no point in practicing if you are practicing your faults. This will only engrain them into your game which is then very difficult to change. You need to make sure you are practicing the right things and engraining good habits.
