Package will include a private counselor who will work one-on-one with the student beginning in the summer of their junior year.
Assessment Starts with a full assessment of the student including the students grades, transcripts, course curriculum, extracurricular activities, community service, writing skills, achievements, standardized test scores and what the student is looking for in a college/university.
Exploring Careers Counselor helps student explore potential career paths and universities that offer programs catered to specific career interests. If desired, counselor helps student shadow a professional in a field of interest.
Campus Visit - The counselor takes the student to a nearby university familiarize the student with a college campus and promote excitement. The student will be given a checklist of things to look for and ask about in order to maximize the tour.
Internship The counselor helps the student obtain a meaningful and impressive internship before the school year starts, and/or during the school year.
Finishing strong The counselor advises the student on types of courses and extracurricular activities to get involved in which send the best signals to college admissions officers. Counselors also recommend relevant college level courses the student can take to further their chances for acceptance into the best colleges, as well as to familiarize the student with college level work.
Resume - The counselor helps the student put together a formal resume highlighting activities, achievements and work experience. Together, the counselor and the student form a plan to further develop the resume throughout the year.
Time Management The counselor teaches the student essential time management and organization techniques. The ability to manage extracurricular activities, social life and school work is essential for the student to learn and master before leaving for college.
Timeline and Deadlines The Counselor develops a timeline to ensure that the student stays focused and on task throughout the application process. The student also learns strategies and options regarding early admission, early decision, priority and regular vs rolling admissions.
Letters of Recommendation: By instructing students on how to obtain highly effective letters of recommendation from diverse sources, the counselor helps the student develop an impressive packet of recommendations.
Best-Fit Analysis -Through careful analysis of the student and college profiles, the counselor develops a list of best-fit school based on the individual students desires, needs and personality. The counselor then works with the student to narrow down the top choices, and set up tours of selected schools. Also, the counselor ensures that the student understands the specific admission requirements for each school, along with each schools unique culture.
Admission Package - After the top college choices are selected, the counselor will work with the student to develop the entire college admission package. The counselor will help complete the applications, and comprehensively lead the student through the entire personal statement and essay process. The student will be marketed to each college in the best way, as the counselor illustrates each students credentials and top achievements in a specialized and effective manner. In addition, the counselor organizes all of the paperwork associated with the admissions process.
Essay Optimization: From brainstorming, to rough drafts, to proofreading the final copy the counselor will optimize the quality and impact of the students essay. Each student has their own unique personality and brilliant qualities; the counselor ensures that these qualities shine throughout the essay. Throughout the process, the counselor explains the admissions essay strategies so students fully understand what admissions officers are looking for. The counselors pays special attention to each students needs, making sure to be there for support, assistance, and alleviation of the panic and stress that can effect students during this crucial time.
Interview Preparation Counselors instruct students in advanced public speaking skills, and conduct mock interviews. Once the appropriate level of eloquence and confidence is met, the student will be assisted in setting up interviews with university representatives and admissions officers. The student will be given a checklist of things to look for and ask about in order to maximize the tour and interview.
Financial Planning and Forms- Counselor help students/parents understand the cost of chosen schools and how to plan accordingly. Counselors evaluate and explain financial aid options including scholarships, grants and financial aid programs. FAFSA and CSS as well as any individual financial forms from the chosen schools are completed by the counselor as well.
Scholarships advising Counselors recommend ways for the student to attain scholarships, and provide assistance to ensure that the student puts together competitive scholarship applications and essays.
Finally, the counselor will work with the student to decide on which school to choose once accepted. With the student and parent, the counselor analyzes the students specific profile against each colleges to discover the best fit. The Counselor will also assist in setting up tours of the schools if needed to help the student come to a decision.
