Sell Without Being A Salesperson

Know who makes the best salesperson? A person who doesn't even act like one. When the word direct sales, sales job or salesperson comes up, often the initial reaction is negative. We all have that image of the used car salesperson that shows up as soon as we get to the car lot and has this sleazy, creepy, untrustworthy and annoying vibe. Yet we have all also dealt with plenty of salespeople who were nothing like that at all.

That was because the salespeople we liked didn't come across as salespeople. This is the attitude and mentality you have to adopt in order to be successful. If you see yourself as that used car salesperson, how do you think you will come across to others? If you simply believe in your brand, your business and therefore, yourself, you will just be genuine.

How 'It's Done

I had a friend who sold security systems once, and he was quite successful at it. His clients loved him and would refer their friends and call him to invite him for dinners and send him cards at the holidays. Since he had never had a career in direct sales prior to this job, I asked him how he did it. He got this stern look on his face and said, "I don't feel like I am 'selling' my customers a product, I am helping them protect their home. I am helping them make sure their belongings, home and, more importantly, their family members are safe from break-ins and fires."

It was obvious to me at that moment why he was so good at his sales career, he stood behind it. So when he showed up at people's homes they didn't think "here we go, we are about to be conned." They were greeted and spoken to by someone who had their best interest in mind. That is a powerful approach to take.

How Easy Is That?

All you have to do is be sure you are marketing yourself and your brand as trustworthy. Be genuine and honest and people will come to you. Stand behind what you do and your attraction marketing will progress in immeasurable ways. Take care of your clients and they will bring you not just their business, but referrals.
