Self Adhesive Tape For Crafty Creations

By:

If you are fond of arts and crafts then you will undoubtedly spend many hours wrestling with glue guns, self adhesive tape and staples creating homemade masterpieces. Depending on the materials you are working with there are a range of different mediums that can be used to fix materials together. We asked some crafty individuals what lies in their art box and what they would recommend for a crafty beginner.

Brenda from Brighton makes homemade greetings cards to sell through some of the shops in the creative seaside city. Starting out using a range of glues to fix novelty items such as beads and feathers to the front, Brenda found that some of the more delicate papers she liked to use wrinkled do to the water content of the adhesives. Now she prefers to use double sided self adhesive tape to stick fine papers, and to leave the more robust glues for heavyweight items on card fronts.

Sally makes custom lampshades which she sells at craft fairs around the UK. Her favourite ones are the rhinestone encrusted shades she creates for elaborate lamp stands. There is a specialist craft adhesive that can be used to stick glass and plastic to fabric and there are also rhinestones and diamantes that have a self adhesive backing, like a double sided self adhesive tape. Although Sally prefers the no mess approach of the ready to stick stones, for attaching piping only glue will do.

Letitia from Essex is fond of making her own jewellery, bracelets in particular. So far her hobby has only reached a selective circle of presents for friends and family, but she hopes to takes her creations to Brick Lane Boutiques when she is satisfied with the outcome. Letitia uses a variety of adhesives and elastics depending on the type of bracelet she is making, but she does admit that she is a big fan of masking tape. Apparently the tape is ideal for keeping everything in place whilst glue dries; it is also easy to peel off and doesn't leave a sticky residue afterwards.

Kerry is an artist who uses a variety of materials to create collages, sculptures and installation works. Her art box is full of every adhesive imaginable not to mention screws, nails, tacks and the obligatory ball of string. Kerry never knows what she'll need to fix where so she always has a wide array of products to hand, although the common theme of self adhesive tape has made an appearance in this art box too. She is currently making sculptures out of used X rays, and has found tape the best way to stick the film together without leaving unsightly marks.
