Selecting A Fair Computer Power Supply Unit For Entertaining: 5 Major Points To Look At!

By:

When I ask some friends who are fanatic gamers the question Whats the most important part in your gaming machine? They told me almost the same answer Its the VGA man!

OK, I dont argue that the graphic card is like the face of a pretty girl.

But boys, if that girl is always in tiredness and fall down all the time, do you want to make a life long and serious relationship with her? (Yet I still hear some Yes answers! What the )

Its time for the fact.

If you ask me the same question, my reply will be the power supply unit - PSU.

Because without it, nothing is going to work. And without a good PSU, your heavy-duty video card and your high-quality micro chip wont run!

No power, no computer, no games. Period!

So now you have it. PSU plays an important role in your PC. Especially when it comes to gaming machines. But how to pick a good one so that it can support the ENORMOUS amount of electric power consumption?

Let me share with you some tips.

What is the kind of the motherboard?

Because there are more than one type of motherboards and each type of them requires different types of computer supply unit. And pay attention to the number of pin for your power supply unit on your motherboard.

Some older boards have lesser features, therefore they utilize 20-pin ATX. Whereas newer boards use 24-pin ATX. Take a short amount of time to check your board, it is necessary.

You can estimate the total amount of power consumption of your PC?

Desktop computers for gaming or home entertainment are usually MONSTERS!

They always consume a big amount of electric power. And guess what, if you cant provide them their need, they refuse to work! And Ive seen many mighty machines that use up to 850W or even 1200W with their PSU!

But in exchange, they will bring you realistic motions from your new (and high requirements) FPS games. Or provide you with gorgeous images from photo-editing software.

What about MTBF?

It stands for Mean Time Between Failure.

Its nothing more than a measurement of working hours a PSU can bring you. Or to say in other words, how many hours it can run before it crashes!

It depends on your activities with your PC. When it comes to this feature, try to look for something like 100,000 hours or more.

Want other parts work together smoothly? Then pay close attention to PSUs load current!

Its just a range of electric values that your PSU can deliver to other parts of the computer.

Because each part has different value of input current. Therefore your supplying unit must deliver exactly what they want.

There are a maximum value and a minimum one. If one piece doesnt get its minimum requirement, it wont work. Its simple as that.

Last but not least, the amount of noise the PSU produces.

Its a cold, hard fact that computer power supply unit can be a BIG source of noise!

Especially when its a low quality one, and cant shut its mouth up when working. For photo editors or entertain-at-home people, noise is very annoying!

Therefore, a great PSU with no noise even when it operates at its best is a big plus! Consider this attribute when you build your own PC.

Care to know about my favorite PSU that score all of the above points?

If you want an energetic PSU, something like 850W to 1200W, I will give you a recommendation.
