Secrets To Buying New Tires

By:

Tires are vital to your overall safety while behind the wheel. With good tires you will have better handling, greater fuel economy, better traction and stopping time no matter the current conditions and also have a more comfortable ride.

There are a huge amount of tires to pick from which can make tire shopping difficult for the first time buyer. With this in mind the following tips should help you navigate the confusion and get the right tires for your needs.

1) Ensure that your current tires do in fact need to be replaced. Have a quick look at your tires. If they seem overly worn, are damaged in any way or seem to be discolored then you should replace them.

Even if your tires appear fine, if you have had the same set for 10 years or more then you should replace them anyway.

2) Ensure your car isn't damaged. If your tires are being worn in an uneven manner it could mean your car has a damaged suspension or the wheels are not aligned properly. Look closely at the tire and see if they are being worn more on the outside or inside, rather than evenly.

Simply changing these tires without solving the issue that causes them to wear in this way is simply a waste of money. It won't be long before your new tires meet the same fate.

When you take your car to a tire center they will usually look for such issues anyway and inform you of what needs to be fixed before putting on new tires. Although if you have the chance ask a mechanic you trust first because the tire center could simply be trying to get more money out of you.

3) Read the owners manual. You will find the best size and kind of tire to use for your particular car as mentioned inside the owners manual and upon the information placard, so make sure you read this before buying new tires.

The law demands that every car has such information expressed on the information placard that has to be attached somewhere within your car, look inside your glove box, door post, inside the lid of your trunk or on the edge of your door. There is a possibility for more dated cars that it will have been painted over, however it will still be there somewhere. Good luck shopping!
