Secrets Of Buying A High Quality Used Car

By:

Except for a select group of rather expensive automobiles, cars are depreciating assets. Even a luxury car will drop in value the moment you drive it off a dealer's parking lot. And, over time, it will keep on losing value until ultimately it will depreciate to zero. Because of this a lot of people forego some of the more pleasurable aspects of owning a brand new car and, instead, buy a second hand car to get around in.

However, there are a few things to consider before you take this route. One of them is that a new car comes with a full manufacturer's warranty and most used cars - unless they are certified pre-owned cars - usually don't.

But, on the positive side, you will have a huge number of choices if you want to buy a used car. And, since there are so many to choose from, there's no need to make any impulsive decisions. The pressure will be off as you take your time and go to as many car showrooms as you can.

When you look for a used car, there are a number of things you will want to keep your eye on so that you will be very happy with your choice.

The first thing to look for is rust. Shy away from any car that has any indication of rust because if it's on a panel the panel will need to be replaced (if a replacement part is still available), and if it's on the body of the car it will have to be repaired, which is neither cheap nor easy to do.

Next, see if any of the glass is cracked or if the pain is uneven. Both of these are problem signs. With so many used cars available, why would you want to take a chance on a potential problem car anyway?

If you narrow down your choices to a particular brand it could make your shopping easier. Imported cars often offer the best value. Amongst Japanese cars, many people will buy nothing other than a Toyota. For example, my brother-in-law has only owned Toyotas for more than 30 years. He recently bought my sister a Lexus - which is Toyota's upscale division.

Next, you should consider whether or not the car that you want comes with a warranty. Some auto dealers offer warranties on their factory certified used cars. And a select group of dealers actually offer a lifetime warranty on their used cars. You can often find dealerships like this by doing a search on the Internet.

If you choose to buy a quality used car that is only a year or two old, you can save a lot of money - and if you spend your time looking and make a good choice, most of your neighbors will think you're the proud owner of a brand new car.
