Searching For An Online Job

By:

Online jobs have become a major force in our economy. Once viewed with suspicion, more employers are realizing all the time that they can save money by hiring employees who work at home. After all, almost anything that a person could do in an office he or she can do at home and send to his or her employer over the Internet. People are now able to obtain work online work in data entry, accounting, writing and all kinds of other areas.

When you first look for an online job, however, you have to realize that there are many scams out there. For one thing, don't ever pay a fee to apply for an online job. Legitimate companies and firms would never ask someone to do such a thing; job applications that cost you money are almost always a sham.

Another important thing to figure out as you begin your quest for an Internet job is if you want to work as a salaried employee or as a freelance. Freelancing can be tricky at first, as you will most likely have to bid for jobs. That is, you'll have to search sites where people can request certain assignments to be completed by a certain date-an instruction manual, say, or perhaps even a short e-book. You'll have to respond with the price you're willing to do the project for. If your price is too high, the project will go to another freelance writer. But if the price is too low, you won't be adequately compensated for your time. The trick is to find that perfect price point, and it's something that you'll definitely get better at with time and experience. And speaking of experience, the more experience you have as a freelance writer the more money you'll be able to make. The downside to freelancing, of course, is that you won't be able to depend on a steady income and you could hit a dry spell now and then when you don't make much money at all. You also won't get benefits. Still, in between full-time jobs freelancing can be a great way to earn some money to pay those bills. (You can also work as a freelance artist as well as a writer.)

You can also work as an online tutor, a virtual assistant-in which you perform the functions of an administrative assistant only you do it from the comfort of your own home rather than from an office-or even as a lawyer or a financial planner who offers advice and counsel over the Internet rather than in person. The best way to get these kinds of gigs is to work for a company as a traditional employee, and then once you've proven how good you are at your job, ask your supervisor if you can transfer your position to your home.

The key to a successful online job search is the key to any job search: keep trying, send your resume out to as many places as possible, and never give up.
