Schwinn Exercise Bikes -- The Less Money Option

By:

Schwinn exercise bikes come in many models and price ranges and newer models appear on a fairly regular basis too. One popular bike type is the upright stationary bike. Often first time buyers of stationary machines opt for an upright. Here's a review of what the uprights offer especially in comparison to other design types.

Your least expensive bikes is often an upright. Note that recumbents with comparable features often cost far more. So, if you're looking for a quality machine, but don't want to spend a king's ransom, consider this type of design. But there's more...

The uprights are also much easier to store than recumbents. The footprint of the upright is the smaller of the two design types. That makes for easier use if space is a factor. The space challenges applies to finding a place to use the bike or to store it as well. Recumbent bikes often almost require a dedicated place for the bike to stay. That's so partly because storage is a chore. But it's partly because the bikes are a chore to move too.

Consider this too. Uprights are quite easy to move around. Partly that's the shape, but partly it's the weight too. The uprights tend to be a little lighter than some other machines, though the weight variation from comparable recumbents is often quite small.

Look at weight though... You want a machine that's heavy enough to take the punishment of hard riding, but not so heavy it's next to impossible to move around.

Therein lies one of the problems of really inexpensive bikes. They are light weight and literally self-destruct. Light bikes sway and move about. Excess movement often starts a cascade of problems that lead to cracked joints and worse. Damage often means more frame and component moving which makes for more damage. The construction and design are just too light to hold up to much real use. Buying a cheap, light-weight upright is thus a waste of money.

But then at some point bikes have enough heft and quality to stand up to use. The Schwinn 120 upright is of that sort. But it's light enough to be easy to move. Consider the bike features too. Look for one of those silent magnetic drives especially of you like riding in quiet. Quiet rides mean you have options of doing something else as you pedal. Even the less expensive Schwinn Active 20 series offers many of the same features...

Add programmable workouts and rides suddenly become less boring. Keeping riding interesting is a major deal. Let's face it, often exercise bikes just gather dust anyway. That may be because pedaling a bike can be very boring. That's why the electronics on these bikes has such great value. It's about fighting boredom.

Schwinn exercise bikes are moderate in price, but high in value. The Schwinn 140 upright exercise bike as an example works lesser machines into the junk pile, but offers many features at a moderate price tag. With a magnetic drive much like the more costly recumbents, the upright bikes just put the rider in a different position but there are few differences in the basic bikes other than ride position.
