Save Money On Auto Repair With Recycled Auto Parts

By:

When we hear the term "salvage yard" many of us immediately conjure the image of Sanford and Son with a front yard filled with dirty, rusting junk. Beyond looking for some kind of funky finds for a junk art creation, most don't even think of looking to a salvage yard for anything really useful. It's just all a bunch of old junk, right? Wrong! Today's salvage yards have come a long way from the junk yards of old. The salvage yards that specialize in recycled auto parts are a great source of replacement parts for both newer and classic autos offered at greatly discounted prices.

Auto salvage yards remove all viable parts of inoperable cars from their seats, doors, bumpers, and knobs to their radiators, transmissions, electronics, and engine parts. Any parts that cannot be reused through salvage are recycled as scrap metal. This prevents the waste and landfill disposal of perfectly usable parts and materials to offer both great pricing to those who need the replacement parts as well as environmentally friendly recycling of materials for new manufacturing.

Auto parts for cars of all ages can be found at salvage yards from classic cars to newer models. Newer model cars are often those that have been involved in collisions that resulted in irreparable damage. There remain, however, many good, reusable parts that don't warrant being wasted in a landfill. The better salvage yards now use a computerized inventory system with a database that lists the parts available so the days of spending a day walking through the yards hoping to find a part you need are in the past. The vehicles are thoroughly inspected for working, usable parts when they come in with the parts removed or tagged for future removal and then inventoried for quick access when needed.

Recycled auto parts are bought by individuals to replace non-working or damaged parts on their vehicles and by remanufacturers that recondition parts for resale. Often parts can be found there that are not available from regular automotive parts stores, especially those that are old and rare. Repair costs can often be significantly reduced with salvaged parts. For instance, a perfectly good salvaged bumper may be less than half of the cost of a new one from the manufacturer.

Today's salvage yards often have networks and access to many more recycled auto parts than they inventory. If they don't have just the part you need, they can often locate it for you from another salvage yard making it well worth your effort to contact your local auto salvage business when you are looking for replacement parts.
