Save Cash On Fuel And Other Basics

By: Ozzie Freedom

I have been engaged in a little bit of research on the different tactics to save money and have found some sound ideas amongst those that are not so valuable.
Ones that are not so valid are those that are unrealistic (â€oepay off your credit cards now and save interest” which you would do if you were able to), lame (coupons and rebates and silly scams such as that) and too much of a sacrifice (take public transportation, etc)

So, here are a few valid ideas…

1 TAXES â€" Adjust your amount taken out of your weekly pay. Take the extra cash coming in and put it into a high yielding investment like a high yielding mutual fund or such and then retain the interest at the end of the year and give back the principle to the government so your tax payments are correct. Could be more like a bump than a savings.

2 CAR INSURANCE â€" Increase your car insurance deductible. By accepting a larger deductible you can save 10-15% off your car insurance which may equal $100-200/year or more. If you are a lousy driver then don’t choose this! (joke)

3 COMBINE YOUR PROVIDERS â€" You can combine your home phone, internet, cable tv, sometimes also your cell phone into one bill and save $50/month or more

4. CHOOSE RESTAURANTS WHERE YOU DON’T HAVE A WAITRESS â€" I have one right down the block from me. You order at the counter and then go sit and they do bring the food but you are not required to leave a tip..

5. HOME ENTERTAINMENT â€" You can sign up for a Blockbuster or Netflix membership and save considerably on your costly DVD watching addiction. Alternatively you can obtain a library card and not pay a dime for all the flicks you can watch!

6. DITCH YOUR GYM â€" Too noisy, too dirty, a bit gross, meat market, kind of torture self inflicted… there are no shortage reasons to not enjoy going to the health club besides the cost. But a good old fashioned stroll or some pushups are just as helpful in most cases as anything you can do at the health club.

7. OPTIMIZE YOUR GASOLINE CONSUMPTION â€" Properly using water in your gasoline system can save you up to 30% off fuel costs for your car by making the fuel you buy perform better. If you pay $40/week for gas you might just save $600 or more per year!
