Sanskrit Tattoo Designs: Look For Tattoos Online

By:

You can find some very good Sanskrit tattoo designs on the internet. Some of them are even free! However, if you want something both unique and beautiful, you may have to pay for it. But if you have a decent amount of artistic talent, it is not difficult to find inspiration to create your own tattoo art. All you need to do is pick up some translations of the great Sanskrit epic poems like the Ramayana, Mahabharata or Bagavadgita.

There is a great variety of Sanskrit tattoo designs. However, only a few of these tattoos are commonly seen on the street - the Om, Padma (lotus flower) or Trishula (trident). Unfortunately, it looks like most people simply picked the same few free tattoo images, which has watered down the impact of these beautiful tattoos.

If you must have an Om tattoo, don't limit yourself to the common designs. Sanskrit was originally a spoken religious language - after thousands of years, many different systems of writing have evolved around it. Each of these writing systems, or scripts, have very beautiful calligraphy. The Om symbol you normally see is written in the Devanagari script. However, those written in Tamil, Tibetan, Balinese, Bangla, Jain or Gurmukhi (Sikh) are equally beautiful and elegant. They are definitely worth checking out for yourself.

A small, simple Sanskrit tattoo is ideal for the beginner. For one thing, many people find the experience of being tattooed to be too uncomfortable. Some people have sensitive skin. Others fidget too much and can't stay still for the length of time needed to complete their tattoo. In addition, a small tattoo is more affordable, especially as an experiment.

If you are looking for a striking tattoo design for your second tattoo, try getting some inspiration from Sanskrit art. You can find some very magnificent pieces inspired by their epic poetry, for example Rama leading his band of heroes to defeat the demon king Ravana who held his wife captive.

Sanskrit is a religious language - it is used in both Hinduism and Buddhism. Both religions have a wealth of inspirational prayers you can pick to tattoo on your skin. For example the Rig Veda, one of the oldest complete religious texts in the world, has this prayer called the Gayatri Mantra - om bhur bhuvah svah tat savi tur varen yam bhargo devasya dhimahi dhiyo yo nah pracodayat - which means "Let us adore the supremacy of that Divine Sun, the Godhead, who illuminates all, who recreates all, from whom all proceed, to whom all must return, whom we invoke to direct our understanding aright in our progress towards his holy seat."

These Sanskrit tattoo designs can be found from both books and the internet. Many websites and free-to-join forums have popular Sanskrit tattoos, while paid membership forums have more unique Sanskrit tattoos.
