The procedure is amazingly simple and fast. When Dr. Maddahi has determined that CEREC is the appropriate treatment for the case, which could be an onlay, inlay or full crown, the tooth is prepared for restoration. This might involve the removal of any decay or weak tissue. This is usually a similar action to what would be done in other dental procedures.

After that step, a digital optical impression of the tooth is taken. That gummy goop in a tray is avoided as he simply coats the tooth with a non-toxic tasteless powder. Then it takes only minutes for a specialized digital camera to photograph the tooth and mouth.

Once the 3D software receives the digital picture from this optical impression the CEREC system converts the data into a virtual 3D model of the tooth. Within just a few minutes, his expert design work completed, the restoration is sent to the milling machine, located right in the office, and the replacement crown, onlay or inlay is swiftly sculpted.

In about 10 to 20 minutes, using a ceramic block that matches the tooth shade, an all-ceramic beautiful, natural restoration is complete! Dr. Maddahi then ensures that the restoration is a perfect fit and has the correct bite. The new tooth is now polished and permanently bonded in place on the already prepared tooth.
