Safety Sunglasses

By:

If you enjoy outdoor sports or activities, you probably need a decent pair of safety sunglasses. Whether you like to fish, hunt, ski, boat, ride bicycles or motorcycles, they really come in handy. While it seems like any pair of sunglasses can function for safety, it is important to find these that will fit your needs, and possibly improve your style as well.

Even though a regular pair of sunglasses protects our eyes from the sun's ultraviolet rays, safety sunglasses are needed for a little more than that. When motorcycling for example, it is a gross but well-known fact that bugs have no windshield to get squashed on, so they end up on your face. While the "eww" factor may vary depending on machismo of the rider, the safety factor still must be considered. If the bugs splatter on a cheap pair of drugstore sunglasses, how long until you have to pull over and clean the lenses? They are made especially for bicycling and motorcycling are manufactured with a special lens coating that helps prevent "splatters" from sticking.

Almost every outdoor activity requires a custom made pair of safety sunglasses. When boating or racecar driving, they need to come with extra glare protection so that your vision is not impeded in bright sunlight when operating shiny metal parts. For hunting and fishing, they should have splatter protection as well, although slightly different from those needed for biking. Some safety sunglasses come with a Rain-X type coating that can be reapplied when necessary. The coating helps water and blood splatters to sort of bead up, like water does on a car after you wax it.

Some of us might not want to admit it while others make it a clear priority, they must be stylish as well. Imagine jumping on a Harley with a few riding pals and putting on a chunky pair of Florida-retiree shades that cover half of your face. Yeah, they maybe get the job done, but you would have to wear them forever, because you'd never be able to show your face in public again.

The most important things to consider when choosing a pair of safety sunglasses is function and design, hopefully in that order. Do not assume that they automatically come with ultraviolet ray protection. Make sure that the safety sunglasses you choose have been certified for your particular outdoor activity. It might help to read up on customer reviews or professional testimonials as well.
