Safely Disposing Of Car Salvage

By:

There are many ways to dispose of a vehicle you no longer need. Thousands of vehicle owners are faced with the decision of how to salvage their old cars each year. Some owners choose to dispose of a vehicle themselves while others use a professional salvage company. In some cases owners abandon their vehicles altogether. These cases cause many problems for the police and the local council. Whichever method vehicle owners decide to use they must ensure that the vehicle is de-polluted properly.

The de-pollution process starts by removing any electrical sources from a vehicle. Newer vehicles contain a large number of electrical devices and typically newer vehicles take longer to deconstruct. At this stage it is important to ensure that they battery is removed and stored safely. Batteries can also be recycled.

The next step is to drain the hazardous chemicals from the vehicle. Any chemicals removed from the vehicle should be disposed of properly. This may require a specialist company as some chemicals in vehicles can be extremely dangerous. The drainage process can be time consuming and you should leave several days for this.

Once the chemicals have been drained and disposed of you will need to remove the tyres. In most cases you will be able to reuse the tyres however you will need to check that they are road worthy. If they are not recyclable then you can send them off to a tyre yard. These will burn the tyres for you.

The fourth step is to remove all the old parts from the vehicle. You should be able to recycle many of these but it's important to make sure you take out every part. You want to leave just an empty shell. Scrap yards and second hand car part companies will happily take parts off your hands. Again these need to be disposed of properly.

Once you have been through each of these steps you should be left with an empty shell. This can then be disposed of through a metal recycling company or a scrap yard. The transportation of this can be tricky so some vehicle owners try to cut them down and transport them in smaller parts.

Vehicle disposal and dismantling should only be carried out by professionals or people who have a strong knowledge of vehicles. They contain many hazardous parts and it would be easy for an untrained individual to injure themselves. Most vehicle owners will tend to make use of a scrap or vehicle removal company. This is because they are often free and provide the easiest way to get rid of an old vehicle.

If you are going to use a car salvage company you should make sure that you get the correct paper work from them. Legal ownership of the vehicle needs to be transferred. This ensures that you are no longer responsible for the vehicle. Most reputable companies will take care of this for you.
