Safe Tanning For Your Skin Type

By:

Tanning lotion is a great way to get youthful glow and create the illusion of healthy skin. Tanning lotions are usually thought of as safer than beds, but there are instances in which beds are healthy. People have different options when it comes to creating tan skin and if you know what type of skin you have, you can choose the option that will be the healthiest and create the least risk for you. If you have decided that getting a tan indoors is the best option for you, take some time to do a little research. This will help you decide how long you should tan, what kind of creams to apply afterward, and whether or not a tan is even the best option for you. Understanding your risk is the easiest way to stay safe and have an enjoyable experience that leads to a healthy glow.

Most people agree there are six different skin types. Though there are variations within each type, these are general categories you can put yourself into to help determine what type of tan will work best. The lightest skin tone applies to people who are very pale. Their skin looks almost white and sometimes even bluish or translucent. Their eyes are light colored and their hair is usually blond, white, or red. These people have a difficult time getting their skin tan because they usually just burn. They need to be very careful exposing their skin to UV rays. They should tan for only short periods of time, if at all.

Light skin tones are darker than the first category, but still quite light. They are capable of a natural tan, but need to build it slowly and utilize creams during the process. Limited exposure in a bed is recommended, but it can still be dangerous. Using a topical cream might be a better bet, though paired with a bed could create a safe, natural looking and even tan. Light brown skin tones usually have light brown hair and eyes, and using a bed to get a tan usually works very well for them. They can burn outdoors, but the burn fades within a few hours or days and turns into a soft brown color. Cream should be applied before using a bed for a tan, but it can be done very safely without too much worry for burning.

Light olive skin can get burned, but it is less common than light brown skin. Olive skin tans easily and using a bed is the best way to prevent burning. The tan will be even and their skin will be an enhanced version of its natural olive color. Dark brown skin tends to tan easily outdoors and will do the same with an indoor bed for a tan. Their skin rarely burns and the pigment makes the tan process somewhat safer.

Black skin almost never burns and it is easy to tan with an indoor bed. The creams used during the process are intended more for keeping the skin moisturized than it is for enhancing or protecting the skin. Though it is not common for people with black skin to tan because they are already dark, some choose to do so to enhance the healthy glow of their skin.
