Rsa Qld - Responsible Service Of Alcohol In Australia

By:

In Queensland Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) have to be approved by the States liquor authority, the Office of Liquor Gaming and Racing (OLGR) before theyre able to provide Queensland Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) certificates.

RTOs can be accredited by OLGR given theyre equipped to deliver the Provide Responsible Service of Alcohol (SITHFAB009A) unit of competency. In Queensland with an OLGR approved RTO the completion of this unit will see you receive a Queensland RSA certificate and a Statement of Attainment.

As the Provide Responsible Service of Alcohol (SITHFAB009A) unit of competency is a nationally recognised RSA course, your Statement of Attainment will be recognised wholly, or in part, as an RSA certification in other Australian states and territories.

All state and territories have slightly different RSA certification requirements. For instance, in Western Australia the Statement of Attainment, no matter in which state or territory you obtained it within, is an RSA certification. While in New South Wales the RTO also must be accredited by the States liquor authority to be authorised to deliver an RSA course acceptable to New South Wales industry standards.

This information is available from the liquor authorities located in the each Australian state and territory. OLGR for instance, will list all its RSA requirements on its website, along with RTOs that are registered by the organisation to deliver the Queensland RSA certification with validity. The National Training Information Service (NTIS) also lists RTOs and what theyre accredited to deliver, and where.

The Provide Responsible Service of Alcohol (SITHFAB009A) unit of competency teaches bar staff and employees dealing with the sale or service of alcohol how to:
Responsibly prepare alcohol,
Responsibly serve alcohol,
Assist patrons to consume safely,
Assist patrons negatively impacted by their consumption and
When its appropriate to refuse patrons service.

While the RSA certification is mandatory, in most cases, for all staff involved in the sale or service of alcohol throughout Australia, it also teaches best practice and the tools of the trade.

Most Australian liquor authorities have established that they brought the mandatory RSA training into practice so as to encourage a more responsible drinking culture within Australian communities. Its a valuable qualification for anyone working within the alcohol industry, on top of which huge fines (up to $10,000) can be incurred for non compliance with various state and territory liquor legislation.

RTOs can deliver the RSA training online or within face-to-face classes. Online the training takes three hours to complete, after which youre immediately able to print out your RSA certificates. In a face-to-face class the training can take between three and six hours to complete, after which the RTO trainer will provide your RSA certificate.
