Rsa Course - The Australian Responsible Service Of Alcohol Course

By:

In Queensland bottle shop employees, bar staff, floor staff, wait people and anybody that sells or serves alcohol in their job, needs to have a Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) certificate. The RSA certificate acts as proof of completion of the mandatory RSA training. This refers to a nationally accredited unit of competency Provide Responsible Service of Alcohol (SITHFAB009A).

In Queensland the completion of this course through a Registered Training Organisation) will see you receive your QLD RSA certificate and also a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for the unit of competency. This is because all RTOs providing the RSA training in Queensland must be approved by the Office of Liquor Gaming and Racing (OLGR), otherwise theyre unable to provide the QLD RSA OLGR-approved certificate.

You can find out if an RTO is accredited by OLGR through OLGR at their website, also through the National Training Information Service (NTIS). NTIS maintains a public register of all RTOs, where theyre accredited and for what training.

The Statement of Attainment is in part recognised as an RSA certificate in Victoria and South Australia and can be used as an RSA qualification in Western Australia and the Northern Territory.

The RSA training teaches staff to responsibly prepare and serve alcohol, to encourage responsible drinking, to assist customers negatively impacted by their consumption and also when it is appropriate to refuse someone service.

RTOs can provide the training online or in person. Both methods of delivery, online or in person, will contain the exact same content and modules. Online training will suit someone who doesnt have time to physically attend an in person training session. The online training is accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You can start and complete it at different times, whenever its more convenient. In person training might suit someone who is uncomfortable with the computer, or prefers the physical presence of the RTO trainer.

When youve done the training the RTO trainer will provide you with your certificate or if completing the training online, you can simply print it out.

Staff new to the industry have one month from their start work date to do their RSA training and get the subsequent certificate.

However, individuals applying for jobs that do require the sale or service of alcohol who dont already have an RSA certificate should consider completing the training prior to gaining the position. This is because licensees need to keep a register of staff and their RSA qualification, if you already have your certificate, all this information can simply be added, youre a convenient hire. On top of which, the RSA training teaches valuable skills that are required on the job.
