Rsa (qld) Is The Responsible Service Of Alcohol In Queensland

By:

In Queensland everybody that works in the sale or service of alcohol needs to have a Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) certificate. This includes bottle shop attendants, bar staff, glassies, wait staff, approved managers and everybody in between.

The course itself teaches these employees how to responsibly serve alcohol, how to responsibly prepare alcohol, how to encourage responsible consumption, how to assist those who have had too much and when it's appropriate to refuse service. Important tools of the trade, so while it is mandatory training it also teaches best practice.

The Office of Liquor Gaming and Racing (OLGR) accredit Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) to deliver the RSA Queensland certificate. The RTO has to be accredited by OLGR or the RSA certificate you receive will not be valid in Queensland. OLGR provides a list of its approved RTOs online.

The RSA training delivered in Queensland by the OLGR approved RTOs is the Provide Responsible Service of Alcohol (SITHFAB009A). In Queensland after completing this course you receive a QLD RSA certificate and a Statement of Attainment.

The Statement of Attainment is wholly, or in part, recognised as an RSA qualification in other Australian states and territories also. This is because it's a nationally accredited RSA unit.

RTOs can deliver the training online or in person, in a traditional classroom setting. Online the course can take three hours to complete - in person it takes between three and six hours to finish. Online training will suit people who don't have spare time to physically travel to an in person course, as it can be done from anywhere and at any time of day. Online you're able to stop and start training again, finishing it in segments when you do have the time. You're able to slot online training in around regular commitments.

In person training will suit people who aren't comfortable putting credit card information online, or enjoy the physical presence of the training organisation staff. At the end of RSA training online you can simply print out your RSA certificate and in person it will be provided to you by the RTO.

If you're new to the industry you have one month to complete your RSA training from the day you started.

Licensees are also required to keep an in house register of all staffs' RSA certification - when they completed the RSA training, which RTO was the RSA provider and when the RSA certificate is due to expire. Fines of up to $10, 000 can be incurred by licensees for non-compliance with OLGR's liquor legislative requirements.
