Rowing Machine Workout

By:

This is one exercise that you can do on your own and once you get used to it you will enjoy the rowing workout. You can set your own rowing machine workout pace and you can also take breaks during the workout.

If you are trying a rowing machine workout for the first time, then here are some tips on how to get started. First, even before you decide to sit down and start rowing, stretch out your legs, arms and take a few deep breaths. You could try touching your toes or any other light exercise. Do this routine for at least five minutes. Now you are ready to sit down and do your rowing machine workout.

Now sit down in the rowing machine and place your feet on the foot pedals and grab the handles. Dont grip the handles too tightly, your grip should be firm and your arms should be fully stretched out in front of you. Now you can pull the handles towards yourself as you slide forward. The handles should come just below your chest when you pull on them. Make sure your elbows are straight and you are not leaning on one side. Your back should be arched slightly forward. Now push the handles away from your body till they are fully stretched and you are back at your starting position. Well now that you have completed your first stroke, now just go on repeating it.

Dont ever get over enthusiastic and start doing the exercise workout too fast. It happens that after you complete the first few strokes you think its quite simple, and you start pulling more rapidly. Just maintain an even paced rhythm. Time your breath with your strokes and make sure that your heart beat is not increasing too rapidly. Take a breather after five minutes. You may have to take twenty seconds to a minutes break but this will depend on your fitness level.

Do the rowing machine workout for twenty minutes initially. During the last three to five minutes of your rowing machine exercise start slowing your rhythm and let your heart beat rate return to normal. You dont want to be going along at full steam and then coming to a sudden stop.

Once you get off the rowing machine do some stretching exercises and then you should be done for the day. This extra five minutes of exercise will ensure that your body cools off and you dont have any aching muscles. Rowing exercise can be a fun and easy way to keep your body in shape and its a great workout for your cardio muscles as well.
