Rome And Its Monuments

By:

Arriving in the "Eternal City", full of charm and impressive monuments, we have to admire a great number of works of art and corners filled with history.
Via dei Fori Imperiali is one of the most picturesque streets of Rome and divides the Fori Imperiali from the Roman Forum.
The Colosseum is one of the most famous monuments of the city, perhaps a symbol of the city itself. Its original name is Flavian Amphitheater and in antiquity it was the place of shows with fights between gladiators and wild beasts with about 45,000 seats. Its construction was begun by Vespasian and Tito inaugurated it with famous games lasted for 100 days.
Among other monuments: Via del Corso, very important way of historical Rome, which overlooks the Palazzo Doria Pamphili; the splendid Spanish Steps of Trinit dei Monti; the Palazzo della Borsa; Montecitorio Palace, seat of the Chamber of Deputies; the Palazzo Borghese and Via Condotti, full of wonderful shops.
And yet, the Complesso del Vittoriano, dedicated to the first king of Italy, started in 1885 and completed in 1911, to which was added in 1925 the Altare della Patria, which is home to the Statue of Rome, two bas-reliefs and the tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the bronze equestrian statue of Vittorio Emanuele II, located on a base representing the regions of Italy.
The Campidoglio was instead the religious center and the necropolis of the ancient city, consisting of the Piazza del Campidoglio, which houses three buildings and a pedestal hosting the equestrian statue of Marcus Aurelius.
Finally, we can not forget: Castel Sant'Angelo, the Pantheon, the Roman temple built by Agrippa in 27 AD dedicated to all the gods; the church of Santa Maria Maggiore on the Esquiline Hill; the Fontana di Trevi, a baroque building, attributed to Nicholas Salvi, with niches containing allegorical statues and a central complex where, among tritons and sea horses, there is the statue of the ocean; the Sistine Chapel with Michelangelo's famous fresco "The Last Judgment" and Piazza Navona, the famous piazza arranged by Bernini.
