Rome: Dissonanze From 8th To 9th Of May 2009

By:

The first edition of Dissonanze was held in Rome in 2000, immediately attracting thousands of music lovers, who stayed in Romes youth hostels, and convincing the organisers of the festival to set up the event also the following years. The first edition of the festival, which was meant to bring to Italy a genre (German electronic music) which had not had the space that it deserved yet, featured international artists of the independent scene that were not famous yet. With the passing of time the festival has broaden its boundaries, not only because Dissonanze has begun to attract electronic music artists from all over the world, but also because the festival has ceased to be only a showcase for electronic music, to become a space devoted to the meeting and fusion of different forms of art, apparently belonging to separate worlds, like the worlds of sound, of image and of architecture. Besides music, indeed, Dissonanze features spaces devoted to visual art installations too, which turn the festival into a contamination area of different, contemporary, experimental languages. The meeting between electronic music and architecture reached its peak in 2005, when for the first time Dissonanze took place in Palazzo dei Congressi, an elegant example of rationalist architecture admired throughout the world, which combines modern lines with a general classical taste.

Palazzo dei Congressi will host also this edition of the festival (8th 9th May), and will become the destination of all those who have already bought a ticket and planned a trip to Rome just to take part in the event. As usual, the line-up is rich and diversified, to give music lovers the possibility to immerse themselves in different sounds. Some of the best DJs in the world will make people dance, and the most important avant-garde musicians will play their music, representing the infinite shades of contemporary music. Some of the artists who have done or are doing the history of techno and house music (Franois Kevorkian, Timo Maas, Lindstrm and Magda, just to name few of them) will make club culture lovers dance, while those who would like to listen to something completely new will enjoy Bat for Lashes innovative pop, Mokadelics post rock, Signals digital experimentations, the contamination between African tradition and digital funky realised by Buraka Som Sistema, Dj Mujava, Radioclit, and the avant hip hop played by Flying Lotus, Daedelus, Gaslamp Killer vs. Daddy Kev. Not only electronic music, then, but a real summary of what contemporary music can offer in terms of innovation and experimentation.

Electronic music and digital art lovers who will take advantage of Rome travel deals will have the possibility to take part in a unique event taking place in special locations: besides Palazzo dei Congressi, which will host shows starting from 11 p.m., a late-afternoon, by invitation pre-party will take place in another Rome historic area, the Ara Pacis terrace.
