The first national park of New Brunswick is situated on the Bay of Fundy. It is home to what are said to be the world's biggest tides, some rising as high as a four story building. Fundy National Park is not just for tide watching, as there are a number of other things to do. Once you get done surfing, you might want to try birdwatching in and around the beaches near Alma.
This family destination features a short course of golf. It is nine holes which is a good distance when you're trying to teach your kids how to play. Younger ones can handle nine holes, but may tire before 18. In addition, boat rentals are available on Bennett Lake. Other family activities include a heated swimming pool, great for those not strong enough to fight the tricky ocean currents off the beach. Or maybe hiking is your exercise of choice. If it is, then try the 45km trail loop that circles the whole park.
Shorter hiking trails also work their way through the park, along the coast and into the lush green forest areas. If your family is more into camping then campgrounds and campsites are there for the asking. Just book them early because reservations fill up fast. Many of the more popular campgrounds are located on the beaches.
Travel a little east of Fundy National Park and you will find The Hopewell Rocks, another popular tourist attraction. Here, the high tides have literally shaped and reshaped the coastline into awe inspiring pillars of different shapes and sizes. When the tide is out, you can actually walk on the ocean floor and explore the caves below. However, learn the tide schedule or you might find yourself trapped by high waters. Ask your travel agent of Park Service personnel for information on how and when to see the Hopewell Rocks safely.
