Rodney Carrington Tickets - Country's Funnyman

By: Brent Warnken

When it comes to favorite comedians for country fans, there would be a few well-known names on the list, like you-might-be-a-redneck star Jeff Foxworthy. Comedian Rodney Carrington, however, is in a category all his own because of his ability to write and sing hit songs as well as impress fans with his standup skills. His unmatched talent has allowed him to carve out a niche in the comedy scene, and it is unlikely that anyone will be challenging his crown anytime soon.

Perhaps the biggest indication of a comedian "arriving" is when he can count other comedians as part of his fan base. In Carrington's case, consider him "arrived." Jon Reep is one of the hottest names in comedy right now as the winner of Season 5 of NBC's comedy competition Last Comic Standing. He is also set to have his own special on Comedy Central. Reep gave an interview to 411 Mania and named Carrington as one of his inspirations, along with other legends in comedy.

Reep told 411, "On Saturday mornings when I was a kid, instead of watching cartoons I watched old black and white Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin movies. I loved Jerry Lewis when I was a kid. As I got older it was Bill Cosby, Richard Pryor, Steve Martin and Dana Carvey. Brian Regan is one of my favorites working today and Rodney Carrington, who is a great friend and a very funny guy."

Carrington has landed many prominent appearances on television over the years, but he is best known as a side-splitting live performer. Carrington is set to finish out his 2009 tour by hitting dates in Canada like Saskatoon, Regina and Calgary before traveling back to the United States for stops including Walker, Minn.; Las Vegas, Nev.; Biloxi, Miss. and Mt. Pleasant, Mich. Check his entire schedule and get your Rodney Carrington tickets.

It isn't much of a surprise that Rodney Carrington ended up popular with country fans, as he was raised in Longview, Texas. His popularity started growing as a comedian through his many appearances on the comedy club circuit, as well as his appearances on morning radio shows. He released his first album, Hangin' with Rodney, in 1998, and it was a mix of his hilarious songs and standup bits. Unlike Foxworthy, Carrington created a reputation for tackling everything raunchy, but country fans loved it nonetheless. The album made it onto the country charts and showed his brand of comedy was nationally viable.

He followed with Morning Wood in 2000, a live album in 2001, Nut Sack in 2003, a greatest hits album in 2004 and King of the Mountains in 2007. Each of his albums increased his popularity even more, leading to a short-lived series, Rodney, in 2004. In 2008, he made his foray into films by appearing in Beer for My Horses with country superstar Toby Keith. That year, he also won the CMT Music Video Award for Supporting Character of the Year for his part in the video for Trace Adkins' "I Got My Game On."

Most recently, it appears that Carrington is taking a new direction in his career. His 2009 album El Nino Loco differed from his other albums by featuring only songs and no standup and even offered fans a couple of serious songs. The album was produced by Keith, who also lent his songwriting skills for the release. Following El Nino Loco, he also dropped an album called Make It Christmas just in time for the holiday season.
