My first memory of rocking chairs is when I used to travel down to my Grandparents house for a visit. We would sit in the living room, rock back and forth and catch up on what had been happening in our lives since that last time were together. It was a relaxing, special time that I will always remember. We werent worried about schedules, places to be, or what chores needed to be done. We just took a few minutes to step away from the stress of everything and enjoy our time together. Grandma had her rocking chair, and Grandpa has his. They also had one for the grandkids and my brothers and I always fought over who got to sit in it. It was your classic style chair for rocking just like the adult ones, only smaller. We felt just like grown-ups, rocking right along with them. The rocking motion was rhythmic and soothing, seeming to have a calming effect on any child who sat in it.

It wasnt until we were expecting our first little one that I thought about rocking chairs again. Sure I had sat in many a chair since I was a child, but never thought about buying one for our household. Having a newborn means sleepless nights and tired Mommies and Daddies. Anything you can do to help soothe that new little baby and get him to sleep is a blessing. Having a chair that helped us rock our child to sleep during that time made our job so much easier. I can remember spending hours upon hours rocking my little one to sleep, only to be back in the same chair an hour or two later. This time was special and I look back on that time like it was yesterday. Im glad I had that one-on-one time to bond with my baby and just watch him fall asleep with the rocking motion. Even today, as my kids are older, they still will crawl up into my lap for a snuggle in our favorite chair. They never tire of the way it makes them feel, and this chair is always a favorite place for story time before bed.

Just as I enjoyed rocking in a childrens rocking chair when I was little, so do my children. They are following in the same footsteps that I did when I was little. They not only love to sit with me and rock, but they also enjoy the independence of rocking in their own chair. And childrens rocking chairs have come so far from when I was little. At my grandparents house, it was just your simple brown. Today, children have a multitude of choices. They can choose a classic style in a myriad of colors, or choose one that is more theme based. Whether they are an artist, into sports, animals, or even a royal prince or princess, chances are you will find a childrens rocking chair to fit their interests. Its fun to look back in time to when you were little and then to see your own children enjoying the same things you did. It just goes to show you how rocking chairs are timeless, and how people (young and old alike) never get tired of rocking.
