Review Video Games Before Purchasing

By:

How many times have you purchased a video game for yourself or as a gift, then after a short time you discover you purchased a "lemon" video game? A game which doesn't hold your attention for more then ten minutes, after the initial annoyance, anger sets in, because you spent your hard earned money on something that will not be used. Sometimes, it's only five dollars, other times it sixty bucks, down the drain. Wouldn't it be nice if you could go to a web site and have reviews available to read from real people playing the game?

I'm not talking just reviews that tell you all about the great things this product will do for you, but the dirt to! This way you can make an informed decision. You get to know ahead of time the kinks that are in the video game. If you are willing to spend money after you know the flaws, well then that's your decision. By the way, there is no perfect video game; it's what we are willing to accept as a good game.

As a consumer I want to know what I am buying. Video games have a no return policy after they have been opened and played, so it's best to know about the game ahead of time. I know you can trade them in at some chains like Gamestop and receive trade-in value. Unfortunately, you still are out the original cost, plus the aggravation of driving to another store to exchange your game.

It would be great to have more stores that allow you to play the game before you purchase the video game. Some stores do have hands on trial runs like Walmart, Target and Gamestop. You can stand and play a game before you buy it. It's not perfect because you can't play every game just the ones the store has selected. It's worth a phone call to see what they have available to play the day you are going out.

What I would do is look online for a gamer review sites and see what they have to say. When you are researching video games online make sure you look for pros and cons, look for reviews by the players of games and a star rating. If you have the time you might want to reply in the comments and see what other readers have to say.

The last option is to look for gamer forums that have on-going conversations about the video games you are looking to buy. This way you will get a broad feeling for the game and some tips on how to play. You are just going to type your game name in Google and then put the word forum behind it. That should bring up some forum sites to read through.
