"With the outburst of electronics sites, most online shoppers don't know where to buy their gear from. All stores look the same, all have very similar products with very similar prices. I mean what is the difference between a 200W stereo system produced by Logitech and one made by, let's say, Genius? None for the regular user, who isn't usually informed about such differences when he goes to a website to buy a product. If you're an average shopper like myself you have seen lots of electronics online stores with incomplete products descriptions, no tech specifications or missing pictures.
That is where niche electronics sites come in. Such services offer you a collection of products catered on your needs, together with full reviews of what you want to buy and, most important, of what the other producers have to offer and what the differences to the products are. More, you get reviews of what other buyers have said about the product and how they have rated it.
So why would you buy from a niche electronics store rather than from, let's say, Amazon? Well, first of all, the price should count. Some of these stores are either Amazon or other retailer's affiliates or work with one and get discounts from the regular price list.
Then comes the support. Big retailers are usually crowded with requests and sometimes answer questions with a 24-hour delay. And if you're in a hurry, this can be such a drawback. On the other hand, smaller electronics sites tend to offer immediate support, sometimes even in a web chat window or some other form of live conversation.
Also, some niche sites work with more than one merchant, so their range of products is usually wider and is more likely that the item you want is in stock. And even if it's not, a smaller store is far more likely to get it for you, since it works with more than one supplier for the same product, whereas a big retailer only has one.
To wrap it up, niche electronics sites can be quite a viable alternative to big, established stores. They are definitely worth trying when you want to buy something new.
