Requirements Of Uid Compliance For Submission To Uid Registry

It is essential that the UID data that are to be submitted to the UID Registry should comply with the UID standards. The contractors and the vendors should ensure that the UID data are entered in correct format. Otherwise, it may get rejected by the UID Registry. As the UID marking system is an essential part of DoDs asset management system, correct and complete data with their required standard is essential for submission to UID Registry.

The UID Registry has certain standards to check the compliance of the UID data. Moreover, it is essential for the contractors and the vendors to follow the marking requirements of the UID labels while marking them. The aspects that are taken into consideration while checking the compliance of UID for submission to UID labels are discussed bellow.

Printing & Marking
It is required for the DoD qualifying deliverable items, government furnished property and property in the possession of the contractors to have unique identification. The unique identifications (IUID) are etched to the items or affixed as labels in the form of 2D data matrix code. The IUID marking procedure is important for the item as the MIL-STD-130 requires that the marking should be or the functional life time of the items. Above all the printing and marking of the bar code should meet the specifications mentioned by the DoD. At the time of submission of data to the UID Registry the printing and marking of the item plays the key role.

Verification
Verification of the 2D data matrix bar codes is done at the time of submission of data to the UID Registry. The marking should meet the verification standards for IUID marking quality to get accepted by the UID Registry. The bar code generating process such as direct part marking and printing determine the quality of the 2D data matrix bar code.

Validation
The validation of the IUID marking is decided according to the ISO 15434 requirements. It requires that the syntax and formatting of 2D Data Matrix code such as header, identifier and non-printable characters should meet the standards set for it.

Scanning and Receiving
The business practices requires that when the items are taken into custody, the UID should be scanned and tracked for better management of the data and items as well. The prime contractors are required to submit the UID data to the UID Registry.

Location and Tracking of Items
All the qualifying items with IUID should be tracked to a specific location. This helps accuracy of reporting and the item information is accessed with the help of the IUID marks. It is important to notice that the step is not important for UID Registry, but it is an essential step for faultless process.

Submission to UID Registry
According to the MIL-STD-130 the contractors are required to submit the UID data to the UID Registry. The data are submitted to the UID Registry either directly or through WAWF at the UID Registry website. The contractors need to register at the UID Registry before the submission of data.
