Required Skill Sets For A Logo Designer

By:

When it comes to logo designers, there really aren't that many within the design industry. There are tons of logo designers available online and you can find many of them at websites like ScriptLance. It may seem like an easy career because all you're doing is drawing and creating a unique logo for a company, but there are still some important skills that you need to learn within the industry. Portfolio

Whether you're still taking a class in logo designing or if you're just doing it for the fun of it, you want to go ahead and create a portfolio with your logos. You never know when a large corporation may stumble upon it and buy a logo from you. This is how logo designers really get their ticket within the industry. A portfolio is easy to keep up with and it'll have all your logo creations in one place so there's no reason you shouldn't create one. To have one online is the best because all you need to do is just send prospects a link where it is made available to them.

Take An Art-History Course

Believe it or not, taking an art-history course can definitely help you with your logos. It helps you in seeing art, how you interpret it and it can give you some inspiration. It doesn't sound appealing to the average person because they wouldn't think there is a reason they should take a course for logo designing. You have to take into account that most businesses tend to get their names from something that's happened in the past and they want their logo art to somehow be incorporated with the name. It's not a requirement that you have to take the courses, but it can definitely open your mind up to the different art periods within history.

Obtain Certification You can obtain a graphic designer certification and use that as a ticket to getting into some companies at entry-level. Logo designing is a branch of graphic designing but you roughly learn the same things and even more. If you've created some logos in your classes, you can go to some forums or sites and try to sell your services to potential clients, especially since you can show them your certificate or degree. You'll definitely need some knowledge in Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, and perhaps Dreamweaver. That are even some crowd-sourcing type projects online in which you create the designs and companies can bid on your projects or vice versa.

Marketing Skills When it comes to putting your logo design business out there, you've got to learn ways to market it without spamming. Word of mouth will always be the top marketing technique because word travels fast. Pay-per-click advertising can help in getting some fast traffic, but it can be expensive. If anything, you can write a few articles or even create a video and post it on YouTube for viewers. Your primary focus would be on why someone should choose you to create their logos and what sets you apart from others.
