2. Study your location

Find out everything you can about the local history of the place you intend to detect. By doing so, you not only familiarize yourself with the different routes but also on where to search. If you know what a place had been previously, you will be able to effectively plan and execute your hunt.

By starting out your search either early in the morning or late at night, you avoid running into a big crowd. Having a big crowd around your hunt has two basic disadvantages. First, people tend to be nosey around metal detectors which intrude in concentrated detecting. Second, crowds tend to interfere with the functions of the metal detector due to the accessories people usually wear.

5. Practice makes perfect

Keep detecting wherever and whenever you can. Only experience can familiarize you with your equipment and teach you the tips you need to help you improve your detecting skills.
