Recycling Ink Cartridges

By:

Not many people know anything about recycling an ink cartridge. People do not see any advantages that come from recycling ink cartridges, so they prefer not to. However, that is a huge mistake, as recycling Canon ink cartridges, Brother Ink cartridges, or any other type of cartridges has numerous advantages.
Studies show that almost 375 million cartridges are disposed of, every year, in the US at least. Recycling all those cartridges would save the environment as virgin materials will no longer be required. Close to 98 percent of the materials a cartridge is made of can be recycled and reused, so with minimal work a cartridge that has been thrown away can be brought back in top shape, filled with ink and sold again. Cartridges that have been used regularly and then thrown away can be ready for sale in a matter of days. Even old, worn out cartridges can be prepared quickly, as the plastic used to create them has a very slow decomposing rate and can last anywhere from 450 to 1000 years. That is plenty of time for each cartridge to be used, recycled and used again.
Even those cartridges that have been refilled by users or specialized companies can be reused. A little more work is required to get them ready to be sold again, and some more material is required to fill the holes that were made in the cartridge to allow the refilling. Since the recycled cartridges are sold as remanufactured, they are sold at a price that only reaches 50 percent of the original price. The quality is just as good though, so if more people would recycle, the price of cartridges would go down abruptly, due to a decrease in the cost of production.
It is good to know that not all cartridges can be recycled. Only original cartridges are accepted, and only those that have not been recycled before. So any cartridge that was purchased in OEM packaging and used regularly can be recycled, but compatible or remanufactured cartridges cannot. The condition of the cartridges needs to be good for them to be accepted in recycling programs, and through checks are performed.
The most important part and the one that is easiest to check is that there must be no cracks or dents in the case of the cartridge. If cartridges are to be sent to be recycled, it is best that this aspect is checked, because the cartridges will not be accepted otherwise. There are more aspects that need to be considered, but each recycling program has its own set of rules, so those must be checked beforehand. Money is paid for each cartridge that is accepted into the program, and prices vary from a couple of pence to a few pounds. Toner cartridges for laser printers will return more money than ink jet cartridges, as is natural.
If people would stop throwing away empty cartridges and simply recycle them, money would be saved on waste disposal, the price of cartridges would drop, they could take advantage of remanufactured cartridges that are just as good as the originals, and more. Unfortunately, people do not trust compatible or remanufactured cartridges and prefer to simply buy another OEM one that is also thrown away once it is empty. The effort is minimal, and cartridges that are well kept will easily be recycled.
Regardless of what type of ink cartridge
printers use, recycling is the key. Only a little research is required to find a good recycling program that accepts anything canon ink cartridges, brother ink cartridges, and any other type of cartridge. It is much better to help save the planet and reduce the cost of future cartridges than continue to buy OEM cartridges at very high prices and then throw them away. More information about the advantages of recycling can easily be found online, for those interested. Not only that, but those who are interested can also find details on the process that turns an OEM cartridge into a remanufactured one. It is easy to see that most of the original parts of the cartridge are used, while only key parts are replaced, to ensure the optimal functioning of the cartridge.
