Recycle Your Photo Greeting Cards For A Greener Future

By:

If you have friends and family like me, every occasion from Easter to Birthdays you will get many greetings cards that fill up the mantle at least once a month. Of course, some of these cards are really special so they go into the memory box, it is the over bundle that I acquire that I begin to feel guilty about. Having them isn't very green; I get huge amounts of guilt from throwing away my cards. It always seems such a waste, so why not look at these few tips and tricks to help recycle and reuse your greeting cards today.

There are so many simple things you can do with your cards to reuse them, one great idea is to make a luminary out of them. Choosing your favourite cards you wish to reuse, cut them down the middle and keep the side with the image you want that doesn't have writing on. (The writing will appear when the luminary is lit up) Then using embroidery thread and a hole puncher, blanket stitch neatly four card fronts together one at a time so they end up looking like a cube. After this all you need do is add a small tea light in the middle and you have a green, recycled, pretty luminary.

If you wish to send out a really unique greeting card this year, it is well worth having a photo greetings card made. Photo greetings cards are individual and really easy to decorate once you have made. Why not find a great picture of you and your friends have them made into greeting cards before decorating with little trinkets. The overall effect is the most individual cards you'll get for the year! Sticking stickers, extra photos and jewels on your photo greeting cards ensures no one else has the same as you.

Lastly, if you are looking for more ideas for your greeting cards this year why not send a greeting card bookmark!? Recycle your old cards and glue two parts of them together, before hole punching the corner and neatly securing a ribbon. You can then write a small message for your loved one that they will always see once they get tucked into a good book!
There are many ideas available for cards, but a mix of recycled, new and photo greeting cards can easily make you new gift ideas for a greener future.
