There are several Munnar Resorts located in Kerala in the South of India. Until about the 1980s Kerala was not the destination of choice for visitors or tourists in India. Most tourists until this time visited the northern part of India. In 1980 several entities decided that Kerala was a good tourist destination and they established a slogan that is used today. The slogan is Kerala Gods Own Country and since that time tourism in Kerala exceeds eight million visitors a year.

The town of Munnar is located within the Idduki District of Indias Kerala State. Generally Munnar refers to the entire tourist region surrounding Munnar and also includes the Munnar Resorts. The entire area of Munnar officially belongs to the Government of Kerala. The State of Kerala has high mountains, gorges and deep cut valleys. It is a verdant area surrounded by much beautiful scenery. Much of the surrounding area is also dense forest with much wildlife. Visitors to the Munnar Resorts can visit vast tea estates, go on picnics surrounded by lakes, or go trekking and camp out under the Indian skies.

The primary tourist season to visit the Munnar Resorts is during the summer which is March to May when the average temperatures range from 15 25 centigrade which is 59 to 77 Fahrenheit. The months of December through February are the coolest time to visit Kerala when the temperatures range from 32 to 50 degrees Fahrenheit. June and July are considered the prime Monsoon season however it does extend into September. If you are interested in dew drenched mornings and lovely rain storms then the Monsoon season may be the time to visit this area. But in the main, Munnar and the State of Kerala have a moderate year round climate.

The language is Malayalam. The area is called a Hill Station and the altitude above mean sea level is from approximately 6,500 feet to 8500 feet. Hill Stations are defined as settlements or resorts that are located at a high altitude such are many in India. In India these Hill Stations were towns or settlements by European Colonial rulers as areas where they could escape the summer heat. The Munnar area is one of these settlements. It is also an area of early tea estates. The first tea plant was planted in the early 19th century at Parvathi, an area which is now owned by Tata Tea Ltd and is the largest integrated tea company in the world. The Sevenmallay Estate has six divisions on the estate today are resultant in the combination in 1954, of the Parvathi, Sevenmalley and Munnar Estates. Parvathi, the estate was opened by Mr. A. H. Sharp a pioneer planter in 1900 and was one of the first areas to be planted with tea in the high ranges.

There are many reasons to visit the Munnar Resorts and the surrounding areas. It is a place of great beauty with plenty of diversions and areas to explore for an exciting vacation in India.
