Real World Self-defense Training - Are You Learning How To Survive?

By:

You've been training in self-defense for how long now? You've learned how many lessons, how many different techniques, and how many ways to deal with a hostile attacker who is trying to beat, break, or kill you?

But, are you really learning to defend yourself? I mean, are you really learning what it takes to survive a real-world attack situation?

Be careful how you answer this question. Because, as much as our ego likes to believe that everything that we're doing, everything that we choose, has to be right and correct simply because we chose to do it - doesn't mean it's true.

Because, unlike taking up any other hobby or activity, setting out to learn real-world self-defense and having the ability to protect yourself and others against the raw hatred and violence that some people are very, very good at dishing out, is not the same thing. Not even close!

While it's true that we can have fun in a self-defense program, learning to defend yourself is not about fun.

And while it's true that we will make friends and develop new relationships during the course of our training, focusing on the critical lessons needed to be able to defend yourself has absolutely nothing to do with making friends or being "nice."

What you need to remember while you're spending your hard-earned time, effort, and money, is that learning real-world self-defense tactics, techniques, and strategies is more like buying insurance or a good security system then it is like going to the gym, or hanging out with your buddies.

It's about "Protection."
It's about "Safety."
It's about "Prevention." And...
It's about "Survival!"

Never, ever forget this point.

Because, if you really want to be good at - I mean really good at - handling the kind of raw, unadulterated violence that occurs, and that you're going to experience inside of an actual attack, then you must have a single minded purpose each and every time you go to class - every single time that you practice.

Because the reality is this: Your life depends on not only what you learn, but "how" you train.

This is one of the most important lessons that one of my teachers taught me early on in my own training. He said, " Jeff, you're going to act exactly the way you train." He made me realize that in the middle of a violent attack, when you'll be operating on pure gut-instinct, whatever has been programmed into your subconscious mind, will be exactly what comes out.

If it's not in there, there's no way for you to do something that just isn't in memory - muscle or otherwise.

So, it's important that you put in exactly what you want coming out, when you're not thinking clearly enough to do anything differently.

So the question again is, "Are you learning how to survive?"

Because when it comes right down to it, if you're not, if you're just going through the motions, or your training with and where you are because it's closer to your house, cheap, or more convenient - if you're deluding yourself into believing that you're learning what you need when, in fact, you may not be...

You may just find that you're no more prepared to defend yourself than someone else who's never trained at all!

Pay Close Attention Here-

Effective self-defense requires more than just a few "karate moves." It involves the ability to think strategically, and understand how to defend yourself with as little wear-and-tear on you as possible.
