Razor Blades Or Electric Shaver?

By:

Shaving is something we all have to do at least occasionally. Most men shave everyday, adding an extra ten minutes to their mornings. For this routine, the camp is split between razor blade shaving (wet shaving) and electric shavers (dry shaving). While the razor blade method has been around for millenniums, the electric razor is finding its way into the daily routine. For those in a hurry, electric shaving can be executed in route to the office. This method eliminates hot water, foam, a razor and washes cloth. It is easy, non-messy but does not give you the close, baby smooth face a razor blade will.

Before the invention of the blade, hair was removed by using two shells to pull the hair out. Cooper razors came on the scene in about 3,000 B.C when cooper tools were developed. Egyptian priests may have begun the idea of aesthetic approach to personal hygiene about this time. Alexander the Great warned his men to shave to avoid "dangerous beard-grabbing in combat." He also believed it looked tidier.

There are two styles of wet shaving: straight or safety razors. Safety razors can be divided into double-edge razors, injector razors, single edge or disposable razors. The straight edge razor was once commonly used but is now relegated to the barbershop where skilled barbers wield their magic. All wet razors require a lubricant agent such as soap, foam, oil, shaving cream, or gel before shaving. This protects the skin from painful razor burns. It also helps to lift and soften the hair and allows the razor to penetrate slightly below the skin surface without cutting the skin. It also gives you a clue as to where you have shaved and what is left to attack.

The electric razor has a set of rotating or oscillating blades, placed behind a perforated metal foil that prevents the blades from coming into contact with the skin. When the razor is held against the skin, the hair pokes through the holes and the blades slice the hair. Jacob Schick invented the first electric razor in 1928. As previously stated the biggest drawback of the electric shaver is that people feel the shave isn't as close as a wet shave.

Whatever your style of razor, 75 percent of men in America shave on a daily basis with almost 100 million strong. While shaving practices differ by religion and culture, almost every adult shaves at one time or another.
