Quiz Night Tips, Games And Ideas

The questions you select are the most important element in maximizing people's enjoyment. There are some simple criteria to keep in mind that will ensure people have a great time.

The more familiar the question topics are to the audience the more engaged they will be in the quiz and the more fun they will have. For example if you are running a quiz to raise funds for a local sports team it has probably occurred to you that you should include some questions about the relevant sport.

You should also however consider including some questions about the club's history, about the recent season, even about the room that the quiz night is being held it. The more specifically questions relate to people the more interested they are.

One questions for example could be "What is the name of the team that won last year's quiz night".

Make sure you include different types of questions. You can use simple question and answer questions, "What is the capital of Zimbabwe ?" for example.

You can use multiple choice questions. You can include questions in which the teams are required to estimate, "How many dentists are there in the United States ?", and mark all answers within a margin of error correct.

Another variant on including questions specifically relevant to the audience is to include very topical questions. You could ask questions about news items that occurred on the day of the quiz night itself for example.

Quiz night games are great because they provide some variety to the evening. Sometimes games are left on the tables at the beginning of the night and teams are allowed to complete them at their own pace.

For example you might leave a sheet of paper with pictures of 10 famous singers and ask the teams to name them all.

Other types of games require interaction with the announcer and are completed in real time. For example you might have a scavenger hunt in which teams are asked to find a blue lighter, an American Express credit card, a hair brush and an Iphone and bring them to the front of the room.

The first team to do so can be given a prize.

Games break up the monotony of question and answer rounds.

Don't be afraid to try something a little out of left field. For example you could ask each team to draw a portrait of a celebrity or even someone else in the room. The team with the best portrait as selected by the judges can be awarded bonus points.

Musical and video questions are a minefield of problems and confusion. They are very entertaining but make sure you have tested all the audio visual equipment and had a practice run.

As a quiz organizer, judge or announcer/MC it can be important to be firm. People will sometimes challenge questions or shout out disruptive comments.

However you decide to handle these sorts of events the most important thing is that you stay calm and are not jolted out of your schedule. As with any organizational or leadership role indecision and wavering is fatal.

If you are running your quiz night as a fund raisers make sure you get the most out of the night. Do not be backward in coming forward to ask for donations.

Before the quiz night itself phone around local businesses and ask for donated items to raffle off on the night.

The teams participating will be interested in how they are doing so be prepared to display some sort of leader board that will show how many points each team has scored.

Organizing a quiz night can be a stressful task, especially if you are new to it. Remember that everyone is there to have a good time and wants the night to go well. If you do some preparation and keep your cool on the night it will be a great night for all.
