What you see If you are in and around the Tidel Park area in Chennai and are looking for a quick bite to eat, head to Aramark, the multi-cuisine, 350-seater food court at IITM Research Park. Brightly lit with simple interiors, the food court is buzzing during meal times with sounds of loud chatter, office gossip and the sight of chefs cooking up a storm. Perumal Pillai, who heads Aramark in Chennai, stresses that chefs here pay special attention to providing nutritious food and a balanced diet.

What you get At the food court, there are six eateries, each offering something different.

The Masala Street offers a variety of South and North Indian dishes. Besides the various combo meals, the South Indian Staple Lunch Meal seems a good pick consisting of steamed rice, rotis, sambar, rasam, koottu curry (mixed curry), a poriyal (fried vegetable), appalam (fried papadams), pickle, curd and dessert. The North combo is well balanced with rice/two rotis, a salad and kadai masala. At approximately Rs. 65, the meals are reasonably priced and portions are just right.

Kaapi & More, the South Indian Snack counter, has an interesting assortment of Dosais and Uthappams served with a variety of chutneys. Ensure you order their specialty South Indian Kaapi. Other dishes available are Medu vada, Idli etc.

The Sandwich Board dishes out fresh salad, cut fruits and sandwiches should you feel in the mood to keep a diet plan. You can choose your fillings, and make your subs/sandwiches. Popular here are the Grilled sandwiches (vegetarian and non-vegetarian), Chutney Sandwich and Spinach cheese sandwich.

Bene Pizza & Pasta is for those who want to spice up their lunch/dinner. Make your own pasta in vegetarian or non-vegetarian and experiment with their sauces, pasta types and toppings. They offer classics such as Spaghetti Arabiatta and BBQ Cottage Cheese/Chicken which are worth relishing.

Oriental Majik has typical Chinese street food. Standard choices such as Noodles and Fried rice (vegetarian/non-vegetarian) with your pick of gravies are available.

The Java Green Caf is a familiar sight and offers fine teas, espresso and smoothies. Innovative Paninis and Wraps are perfect for a quick bite especially if you are on the run.

The price range of all the dishes here starts from Rs. 10 to Rs. 100. The food court is also open from breakfast from 7 AM to 10 AM and offers a spread for Rs. 120 per head.

Our verdict Perfect for a quick office lunch / dinner or if you are heading for a movie on the way to the city. It is a great place to catch a quick bite if you are in the vicinity. The prices are extremely reasonable and the portions are sufficient. There is a variety to choose from. Food is good though it can tend to be quite monotonous. Service can be a bit slow especially during peak times. You can also do a take away at the food court. No home delivery as the food court caters to the office crowd and the Ginger hotel in the same complex. There is ample parking space available in the complex. The food court is open to public as well.
