Purchasing New Pickups For Your Electric Guitar

By:

The sensual and colorful pitch of electric guitars was the most important creation for rock and roll. During the 1950's, this sound was being experimented with and then in the 60's and 70's, that style was added to until it was perfected. The crispness of sound that comes out of an electric guitar is amazing. It is amazing to imagine where music would have gone if it hadn't been for the invention of the electric guitar; horrible to think of. A band without an electric guitar is like a child without its parents.

Electric guitars come in different contours, sizes, colors, and designs. Many believe that it does not matter what electric guitar you get because they all are the same thing. This is is not the case; brand, size, pickups, and neck matter in the sound that is made. Because of this, certain brands of electric guitars are seen and played for decades because of the precision that is put into making them. Although, the largest contributing factor to the sound made is the pickups.

Whether starting the next great rockband, jamming solo, or adding instruments to your bands arsenal, you should learn the different arrangement of pickups for electric guitars before you decide on one. Many instrument shops will allow you picking them up and whaling and can be very helpful in providing information and assisting one in picking the most appropriate electric guitar. Make sure to find information on the differences in pickups. Thestyles of pickups for electric guitars are:

* Single Coil Pickups This style has only one coil or wire. This type is the oldest of electric guitar arrangements. When strumming on single coil pickup, the sound is drowned by other frequencies in the room which create a hum with the music. These types of pickups are not often seen today but still the pickup for some very well known artists because of the blues-like sound they produce.

* Humbucker Pickups This type of pickup consists of two coils where the unwanted hum of the single coil pickup was cancelled out. Basically, the coil carries two signals: one that the guitar is making and one that eliminates the hum. The actual piece in this arrangement is called a Humbucker which was patented in 1954. The humbucker is basically the arrangement of two coils.

* Double Coil Pickups These pickups, just like their name, have two coils. Though, for an unknown reason, musicians do want the hum sound from time to time so the double coil pickup electric guitars are usually made with a switch that can cancel the second coil.

There are of other contributors that go into the sound an electric guitar makes. However, pickups are the single most important part of the electric guitar. Other things for example: neck length, shape, material, frets, and tuners are also important for sound but not like the pickups. For decades, pioneers have been trying new things in hopes to finding the perfect guitar to make the best sound. Rock and roll has changed in some ways but in many ways it has remained indifferent.
