Have you ever said, I just wanted to be loved.? I know I have said that. More than once. I think most of us have done some things because we just wanted to be loved. We also have the ability to watch those around us do things in the name of love. With the advent of gossip columns, news papers, the internet, etc., we are seeing and hearing more than ever before. Todays Daily Quote is from Rita Hayworth, the American actress. Its her birthday today. She said the following:

All I wanted was just what everybody else wants, you know, to be loved.

When I think of someone who supposedly had it all: beauty, brains, a successful career, money, men knocking down her door, etc., I dont think of a lonely, sad person. However, Rita Hayworths life is a case study in an unhappy life. Shes a classic example, for me anyway, of someone who just wanted to be loved.

Ritas parents decided that she was going to be a dancer from the time she was VERY young. She was forced to go to dance class to learn classical Spanish dances. She said later in life that she did not have the courage to tell her father that she didnt even like dancing. She has said her entire childhood was nothing but rehearsal. As she grew up, she found her way into movies. She had to undergo cosmetic treatments to make her look less Hispanic. The studio bosses completely ruled her life and treated her like a commodity. She was quoted as saying she felt owned. She just wanted to be loved. Instead, she felt like a product.

She dealt with her sorrows and frustrations by hitting the bottle. She became a full-blown alcoholic. She was mistaken for being a crazy drunk when she actually had Alzheimers Disease. The last years of her life were spent under the care of her daughter in full-blown dementia. For the beautiful woman who just wanted to be loved, that sure seems like a sad ending.

For today, lets find at least one thing about ourselves that we can love without any outside help. Lets look inward for love and not outward. Lets look for the people in our lives who have always just wanted to be loved and send them some love with NO strings attached. Make this a day about giving and receiving love just for the sake of love. Do it for Rita and those like her who never had the chance. You CAN make a difference today!
