Psp - Sony's Entrance Into The Portable Market

Psp - Sony's Entrance Into The Portable Market

By:

Quite awhile ago, Sony, the company responsible for making the PlayStation, checked out the portable market and thought it was probably good to make a portable system of their own.

Around this point in time, Nintendo had a fifteen year old strong brand, that being their GameBoy portable console. Also at this time, Nintendo let the gaming world know of a new system they planned on releasing, the DS. So essentially, Sony convinced themselves, and even gave some "subliminal" hints, that Nintendo's GameBoy would be a thing of the past once PlayStation Portable hit the scene.

When all was said and done, that just wasn't the way things panned out. Now let me talk about the PSP for a bit. The hardware itself, the actuall console, looks absolutely stunning. The Sony PSP (Sony PlayStation Portable for short) has a beautiful, wide-screen, high-resolution screen. Software title or videogames are played on what is known as the UMD format. Essentially mini-dvd's. You also use UMD's to watch movies on the PSP (PlayStation Portable for short).

You can also browse the web, play your favorite tune, etc. PSP's actual hardware is gorgeous. The Sony PSP (Sony PlayStation Portable for short) looks great in terms of it's hardware and it can also produce some high-quality graphics. Yet somehow, there were still a lot Sony PSP to go around during launch, something Sony wasn't expecting, and by the looks of it, Nintendo was in the portable market to stay.

This may perhaps have happened because, simply, they didn't just focus on the games. Sony bunched everything together. It could have just been that, when it comes to gaming, this isn't a good idea. Also, the Sony PlayStation Portable doesn't really cater to people looking for "gaming on the go." This is because the PSP is more like a home console instead of a portable one. There you go, I'm done. Now have fun with your Sony Sony PSP.
