Providing A Healthy Planet For Our Kids With Green Living

By:

Globally nature is being alarmingly impacted by man-made emissions, spillage and effluent, two of the most obvious effects being climate change and acid rain. It would be splendid if we could reside on this amazing planet without destroying it in the process. How wonderful it would be if we could breathe clean air in our cities, uncontaminated by poisons and toxins due to our way of living. But this is no longer feasible; we humans have ensured that with the pollution we've created we'll be breathing in airborne poisons, which can impair our habitat and ultimately our health.

Our immense oceans, which make up the majority of the earth's surface, are being poisoned by pollutants, mainly toxins and oil, which have a devastating consequence on the life found in the ocean and as a result of that it affects us. Lots of fishing jobs that were dependent on the healthy bounty of the sea have been wiped out. Since way back in time, fishing has fed and given economic means to a substantial segment of our population, all of which is already being taken from many. Anyone wanting to be persuaded of how harmful oil spills are, need look no further than the recent Deepwater Horizon disaster, which cost billions to subsequently fix and left many unemployed. The food chain and the whole of the ecosystem sustained significant damage, as a direct consequence of the deaths of large numbers of not only fish but also birds. All of this just to harvest oil, a shameful instance of humans putting themselves before other creatures and the planet.

In contrast to investing in present green energy methodologies and further research into new possibilities, we persist in spending billions of dollars on oil exploration. Present green energy options, which do no damage to the environment, are capable of supplying a lot of our energy needs. Take solar panels by way of example, they will work effectively in sunlit locations and they can produce electricity as well as heat up water. And something that's equally simple in concept, wind turbines, employs another free resource (wind) to make energy. The advantage of wind turbines, provided there's enough wind, is that they perform all day and all night. We should understand that the time to implement an ambitious green energy program is now, given the environmental damage caused by oil, and the limited supply thereof. Possibly then we can halt or maybe even reverse the terrible effects of global warming and pollution.

A lot of short term advantages will accrue to us, and we shall be presenting future generations many benefits. We don't wish our youngsters to grow up in a world that has erratic weather and terrible conditions; we want them to grow up in a beautiful world where they can be proud of the planet and all it has to offer. Beginning to live green, and preserving the environment, could be the only way we can ensure this.

It will be a huge and rewarding achievement to confine the harm to our home, planet earth, and it's environment, but it will take time, much money and a substantial amount of work.
